The plane does not seem to refract or be transparent at all and following your directions as best I could, the image is always greyscale on the plane

Have you set the transmission up on the plane?
If you are not using the latest Arnold (5.3) you will need to make sure opaque has been unchecked on the plane

I had not made the upgrade to 5.3 and I had set the transmission as Lee stated to 0.9. IS it possible that it is not working because of not using the 5.3 GPU version?

You will have to upload it elsewhere like G-Drive, Dropbox etc and post the link here.

You need to select the RenderCam in the Camera attribute of the Camera Projection.

Using the file you sent, just loading texture, I only get greyscale with no textures

I don't understand. Did you open a file texture in the image shaders? Here is what I sent you using my texture.
