aiFog and aiAtmosphere

Hi Everyone.

I have a question about aiFog and aiAtmosphere. I've created some aiFog, however working at it's lowest setting of .001 for the distance, the fog is too thick. see attached image.

Also, I was hoping that if I put lights into the fog the would affect the volume but they don't seem to. It seems like the only way to get the light to have haze is to remove aiFog and replace it with aiAtmosphere. Is there a way to have the aiFog on but have the lights affect the volume of it?

I'm hoping to do all this inside maya and arnold. I know I can send out a zdepth pass and do this post but for the hell of it I just want to do it all inside Arnold.

how else is anyone creating atmospheric perspective. I was really hoping to do it with aiFog.

thanks!

I think you would probably be better off using lighting with Atmosphere Volume as it would give you more control. Here is a simple test using a large quad light.

Unfortunately, you cannot render fog with Atmosphere Volume in the same scene.

Hey Lee. Thanks for the reply. Yep. Your method totally worked. Thanks.

I don't have my setting at a high value yet but I'm happy with the results so far. Thanks again!

i was wondering if we can use both effects in the same scene: aiFog and the aiAtmosphereVolume. applying the aiFog after the aiAtmo shows both nodes in the outliner, but only the first effect seems to be active. cheers, and have a good new year!

instead of AthmosVolume, you can use large boxes of volumes instead... that's tycial I use it, place volumes boxes around the lights to controlled light fog and speed up renderings

Either one or the other, I am afraid Maximilian. Maybe you could cheat the fog using a state_float or just comp it in post.

HNY to you too!
