For me after Arnold version 3.1.1. newer Arnold version and last 3.2.1 converting tx files really differently, corrupting them. Textures where created and exported by Substance painter.
In uploaded screenshots it shows the difference uncoverted and coverted tx files. In older Arnold versions starting from 3.1.1 coverting goes fine. I dont know why the results are so different and how to fix that?
Are you able to make a small repo scene?
Hello Ashley, sry it took me so long, uploading on google drive.
Full report will be posted below
Update, I ran more tests, because I am really curious up in it. And it seems that problems starts when it tries to convert height map that is in .tga format to .tx. The funny thing is that it do not happen on older Arnold versions starts from 3.1.1. I dont know why.
I tried to use TIFF and PNG for central wall, and these formats worked fine. Only TIFF basecolour node must be in RAW not RGB.
I uploading scene, fbx file with materials and tests screenshots, with substance to arnold official manual screenshot.
report file
I hope this will help.

Hello Ashley, updated 2019.1 and Arnold to 3.2.1.1. Nope, coverted wall normally, but everything else is rendering old as hell, all tx files were deleted and reconverted. Problem with tga coverting from Substance Painter is still there.
Anyway I will use PNG then, or use Arnold 3.1.1., I hope my info will help you to make Maya and Arnold better.
If the problem is with tga files, can you upload one of the tga files? I don't need anything else.
The Google drive download had jpgs only.
Hello Stephen, there must a folder created with materials after you import .fbx file in Maya.
I don't see any problem. There's no diff between rendering with the tx files and the tga files. What am I supposed to see?
Hello Stephen, are you using Arnold 3.2.1 or higher?
In archive that you have downloaded, there are screenshots I made, for example text_tx_png_height_map, where the center part of the wall is tx file from PNG, all other objects have tx. from TGA.
Look at text_tx_tga_height_map and compare with test_tx_png_height_map, you should see the difference, that I am facing.
I'm using 3.2.1.1 and the scene doesn't use any texture files with "height" in the filename.
No, no Stephen, not texture, but an image file, screenshot in Hunkito_arnold_test_scene.zip
What tga file is being used in those screenshots?
Of the ones in the uploaded archive, I looked at wall_up_corner_low_wall_up_corner_low2_Height.tga
With older Arnold versions, the tx files gave no displacement. Only the newer Arnold versions (5.2.2.0 and later) actually displaced something.
I don't need a scene or anything, just the displacement map.
Hello Stephen sending you height map and generated .tx file

Hello Stephen, I uploaded height and generated .tx file in last post, did you get notification, may you please check it out!?
@Stephen Blair Hello Stephen, any news, did you tried .tx file that I uploaded?
@Stephen Blair Hello Stephen, everything is ok? Should I upload something else or provide more info? Any news on this?
I started with one of the sbar files that ships with Maya, exported the textures to file, and they all worked fine, both in the older and newer versions of MtoA.
Hello Stephen, did you check my .tx file that I uploaded? Is it working fine for you too? Anyway thank you for testing, so the problem is on my end. What can cause that? I tried to reinstall MtoA several times, probably should restart after each reinstall, probably saves some temp files in registry. Strange that it is happening to me on new versions both on 2018 and 2019 versions. Maybe some driver conflict?
