Maya 2027 crashes whenever I run Arnold renderer - Error code C0000005

I've been working on a project for the past 3-4 months. After a few weeks of not touching it, I opened a scene to adjust the lighting. However, the minute I switch from Viewport 2.0 to Arnold, Maya crashes. It shows error code C0000005. I've been using Maya student version on my PC since March and there were no issues until now. I run Arnold on CPU (my GPU is not compatible with Maya) and I work on Windows 11.

I've been troubleshooting all day with an Autodesk assistant, but nothing seems to be working. I tried changing the render settings, uninstalling and reinstalling Maya, opening Mata on another Windows user, resetting all the presets back to default. I'm frustrated because I wanted to make some changes to my project before submitting it, but I don't think this will be possible. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a BIOS update, but I rather wait for my partner to be there when I do that because he's the one who built my PC.

Crash report number is 946703648

There's nothing listed in the crash report except an AMD component.

Thanks for providing the report number. It looks like this is crashing in the AMD HIP driver. My guess is that your GPU driver was probably upgraded in the past few months and this new driver is buggy. I would suggest updating to the latest AMD Adrenalin driver and if that doesn't help downgrade to an older working version.

If you're unable to change the driver, you could maybe work around this by switching the OIDN denoiser render device to CPU so that your AMD GPU is not used for denoising.

Someone suggested I install the AMD cleanup utility, so I did that. Reinstalled the latest driver, then used the OIDN denoiser. Everything works again and I am able to render!

Thank you so much for your help!
