creating black/white rendered animation with Arnold

New to Arnold rendering and animation. I happen to chance upon Jose M. Elizardo video on Youtube, demonstrating importing CFD data into 3ds max, and turning it into an animation. In part 2 of the video, the background of the animation is shown as white and black interior space, and only the moving arrows are shown in colour, and moving. Does anyone here know how what settings in Arnold I should check to make that type of animation? and what are the materials that have to be assigned to it? based on the image, which I have taken a screenshot, it seems like the light used, is an overall lighting. is that correct?

For something like that, you want the Arnold Toon Shader.

Let me know if you need help with that. There are a couple of tutorials that you may find useful.

I made a quick intro to toon shader

You also have the official Arnold Youtube

And the best for me is this one.

It is for Cinema 4D, but the settings are basically the same for 3ds Max.
