render transition of opacity in animation?

Hey fellows,

I would like to ask how to render the opacity of an object from 100% to 0% to create a fading animation. I'll use it to explain something's internal function by fading out the outer part.

I found an example showing exactly what I want to achieve with arnold/ cinema4d: https://youtu.be/_eQLFVpOYm4?t=15

(from 00:15-:018 when the housing fading out)

I've been looking into this topic for a few days but seems like there's no good answer or related topic about it... some suggested using the "display tag" but it only toggles either on or off of the object's visibility..

would be really helpful if someone can give me an instruction to do the task

thank you very much

Assign a standard_surface shader to the object and animate Geometry > Cutout opacity.
