Negative Light?

Negative Light?

Hi,

I was just thinking if it would be possible to make a "light" that instead of light projects darkness? I know this is physically impossible, but it would be incredibly handy when lighting a scene, where it is always much more easy to light a specific thing than to darken it. It's probably not possible to it within the vanilla Arnold, but maybe with a kind of tiny "mini-plugin" could it be possible? Something like a projected shadow that absorbs the light it hits?

This is an old trick from the '90s (yes I am old) for faking lighting. Quite expensive to render I seem to remember. Why would you want to do this in a physically accurate renderer? The light_blocker might be of some use instead.

Only for artistic reasons. I also use a ton of light linking, which ins't physically accurate too.

Thanks for the light_blocker tip, I played around with gobos and slates but this might work as well.

Thanks!
