tyFlow render support?

So the latest version of the amazing plugin, tyFlow now supports fire and smoke.

It is amazing ❤️

However Arnold does not currently render it.

Are the 3ds Max Arnold team working on that?

I think API's have been sent out to developers.

(the video shows how good it looks in viewport with tyPreview)

You could export to a VDB file (Pro version only), then create an Arnold Volume object and import the VDB file.

But you are right: there should be a better, direct way.

Yes sir. I am aware.

For now I am using the free version 🙂

Do you know if any other render engines than Arnold, have direct render support now?

It appears the ball is in Arnold's court.  For us to be able to have Arnold natively support and render Tyflow Zenith, Arnold needs to program their software to do so.

Since this is clearly a very hot topic (pun), we would all love it if the Arnold folks might make a statement about this need and their intent.

I apologize if they already have.

TyFlow volumes will be supported by the MAXtoA plugin, just like the MtoA plugin handles XGen and other host-specific features.
The core renderer (Arnold) won't include support (so you won't have TyFlow volumes in Houdini). You'll always need MAXtoA installed, because it will provide the support for TyFlow volumes.

Just to set expectations, though:

  • To render, you need a tyFlow license. By design of Tysons licensing model, tyFlow will not hand over the volumetric data in the free version.

  • The version with tyFlow support is not released  yet. Soon though!

So, finally, with MAXtoA 5.9.2.0, it works! 👍

Besides that, also 3dsMax 2027.1 is there!
