@Lee this one is for you... 🙂

I want to create 3D sculptures with Arnold like Marti' Moreno's ones.

I want to use previous method of @Mads to make dissapear the texture

https://answers.arnoldrenderer.com/questions/20386/holes-that-randomly-disappear-with-osl.html?child...

My question is if possible to create a displacement shader that extrudes in direction of the curve of the sculpture...

Anyway if someone can post a tutorial how to do this...

thx again magicians.

Hi Petros, this looks like a geo instancing case. Maybe this could be a good use for Bifrost instancing? If the camera is not too case you could fake it by adding a repeating texture to the opacity, displacement etc. Maybe @Mads Drøschler has a cool OSL shader for this?

We can create an SDF bolt and use Pflow to instance each SDF shader. Then render Implicit stucture.
Bit like this, here I created the LEGO brick in an OSL shader and distribute the solids pr particle.

You kinda need to go SDF route, as you would end up with a vector displacement for the shader that would take a very large amount of geometry density to render correctly.

Look at TyFlow though, you can distribute the bolts and get what you want with a regular mesh.

They have a facebook page with a ton of scenes you download and the plugin if free for now.
