In this example that I made with Max 2010 and Mental Ray, I show you what I am looking for, the scene consists of a sphere, a cylinder and a plane, the sphere and the cylinder reflect each other, they also reflect the plane that acts as a floor However, other images are seen in the reflection of the sphere and the cylinder, above all we can see in the sphere the image of a house that is reflected, but it does not exist in the scene, and if I break the sphere, the image does not move , it behaves like a reflection, that's what I'm looking to do with Arnold's materials and I can't find the answer.

I show you another example, a cylinder cut out with a metallic material, it has a texture in the reflection field and I adjust the settings so that it looks elongated, the image is that of the house that I have been showing you, it gives the appearance of a reflection No problems, can that be done with Arnold?
Before you tell me that in order to project the floor and see the house I only have to put a background with the background and it will be projected on the sphere, I tell you. Imagine a very, very large client, like a Unilever or Procter & Gambler type, who wants a checkerboard textured floor, and a sphere, I want the background to be the interior of an office, but for the sphere to reflect the floor and a forest, in this case the background would be the office, right? The reflection of the floor has no problem, but what about the forest? How do I add the forest? Do I have to render two scenes, one with the reflection of the floor? and another with the forest and then do the compousing in another program? Observe the reflections of the sphere and the tape, especially the tape, is reflecting the house. I can't say to my clients, "I'm sorry, it can't be done because that's not what Arnold is for."
I sent you the whole scene, but I made it in 3D Max 2010
That's possible. Just use a custom map as background instead of the default scene environment.
We can try to help, but we need to understand what exactly you are trying to do. Thanks for the examples.
The first thing that I noticed is that there is no need to be working in Activeshade. That is an old workflow. Switch to Production Rendering Mode
And then use the Arnold Render View
I am also uploading your file back with some changes. You need to explore the Camera or UV projection for what you need.
"I want the background to be the interior of an office, but for the sphere to reflect the floor and a forest, in this case the background would be the office, right? "
Again, I refer you to the ray switch shader. There is a video here (it is Maya but the shader works the same in 3ds Max).
I suggest you familiarize yourself with the Arnold for 3ds Max user guide.
There are tutorials and learning scenes here.
There is also the Arnold renderer YouTube channel.
Hello everyone, first of all I want to thank each and every one of you for the help you are giving me, thank you very, very much, I appreciate it very much. To understand what I'm looking for, let me explain that, as I already mentioned, I work for a very, very large company worldwide that makes self-adhesive labels, and our clients are the top of the top, what I do is generate the labels and packaging. of new products or new presentations of said products, these can be for personal care, drinks, food, in short, any product that can be found in a supermarket, these labels generally consist of different finishes, shiny, matte, hologram, iridescent , metallic, transparent, textured, heat sensitive, UV, even LED light, it is like making special effects but printed, and the combination of these effects is practically infinite, they can have one or more effects, up to 9 or 10 effects per label , the point is that depending on the materials each effect can behave differently, and that is why I need to find a way to project a reflection different from that of the background, imagine a label made up of 5 or 6 layers, one transparent, another shiny, another opaque, the next metallic, another one with a tactile texture, and the last one iridescent, each one reflects the different background, but to sell that label to the clients you have to "make adjustments", this is where through the reflection you can add luminosity, brightness, highlight the reflections or if necessary reduce them, that is why the reflection field of the mentalRay materials were so useful, each material could be adjusted individually, even having a different reflection which made them more attractive, that is what I was looking for , it is actually very simple, let's say it is adding a reflection map to each material to be able to make custom adjustments, just as you can do in the standard 3D studio materials, the problem is that these materials do not work with Arnold.
I have not been able to put his recommendations into practice due to lack of time, but as soon as I can I will do so, and I hope to soon be able to show you the result of this search, thank you very much.
Hello everyone, it seems my question has been resolved, many thanks to lee_griggs, wernienst and CiroCardoso3v for their support, I hope one day to be able to understand and handle Arnold's materials like them, thanks to this forum, I really thank you very much, I leave you a small video I made while playing with the materials applying what was recommended to me. Thank you
