Command line input (Aliases) for non-Single hotkey mode

Command line input (Aliases) for non-Single hotkey mode

Users can already toggle Single hotkey, my proposal is that this toggle also toggles command line operations, also known as aliases, the way they are used in Rhino. This would already alleviate some of the difficulties in terms of UI, especially the Palette & Layer system. It reduces mouse movement and saves time regarding command activation compared to having to use the interface. For instance, one could input ‘CV’ for a degree five curve and CV3 or C3 for a degree 3 curve, which is more flexible than adding shortcut keys. Alternatively, macros could be avoided by setting up aliases for custom tool presets, though this is harder to batch manage in the current UI.

This proposal is helpful for interoperability as well, because CAD systems (Autocad/ Rhino) tend to favour command line operations, whereas polygonal modelers predominantly use single hotkey mode.

To coordinate custom aliases, an alias manager could be used, in which both the aliases (key combinations) and the macro they trigger are show (with and without dialog boxes option and nested command options). To improve upon Rhino’s implementation, there should be a command and alias search box as well as sorting in alphabetical order for both aliases and commands.
Or, in case of custom tool presets, it would require searching through both the default command names and the options nested within (e.g. curve degree or continuity settings).
