Yes, please! I'm still running Alias 2018 on Catalina - hanging on as long as I can.

Alias is used for automotive and industrial design, while VRED is 3D visualization software. Neither Mac version has been updated recently.

Now that boot camp isn't supported anymore by newer Apple Silicon Macs, and given that virtual machines (example:Parallels) slow down the performance by quite a bit, I think now is a good time to bring back macOS support.

I’m not holding my breath. I think the only reason we ever saw Alias on the Mac in the first place was that earlier versions of Mac OS X had a lot in common with the old Unix SGI systems Alias was originally designed for back in 1983. With Alias having been ported to run on Intel chips, it was a perfect storm that allowed it to run on Macs.

But Apple has moved on. By dropping support for OpenGL, a lot of these legacy applications would require a significant rewrite to continue run. M1 chips make it even more significant.

Old codebases like Alias are just collapsing under modern requirements. If Microsoft continues to push Windows toward ARM and also reduces support for OpenGL… maybe we’d see it resurface on the Mac? But for now, I have an old PC that I keep around just to run Alias.
