Advanced Hotkey Editor (& Clutch Keys Editor)

Advanced Hotkey Editor (& Clutch Keys Editor)

The current Hotkey Editor could be improved in several ways:

  1. Rather than typing out the hotkey combination (e.g. ctrl+shift+s), it would be nice if the input box could read the keys that are being pressed and automatically fills in the combination.
  2. In addition, it would be nice to be able to search for a specific function title, (e.g. "Hotkeys/ Menu editor") so you could then set the hotkeys for the queried function. This way users won't have to open several submenus to find the function they would like to remap.
  3. In case of conflicting hotkeys, the dialog box below should additionally prompt to edit the keymap for the conflicting function, which in this case is "Invert Layer".

    Sub-D
  4. To be able to mimic Sub-D shortcuts from polygonal modeling packages the editor could allow for additional functionality like what's present in Max' Hotkey Editor.
  5. With regards to complete UI customisation, the current Clutch Keys Editor, offers little customisation and thus does not (fully) allow customisation to smoothly transition between different software packages. A possible way to implement user preferences is shown with this example from Blender where button press, release, click, mouse drag, double press are all configurable:

  6. This way, shift/ alt + drag to extrude edges is also configurable.

Thank you for your detailed recommendations.   I will enter tickets for those I think are doable in Alias.

Thank you very much, that would be great!
I am preparing some additional ideas which I will post once I've gone through some additional learning in Alias.

There is one more point regarding the hotkey editor which I will therefore post here now. It involves the different workflows. Currently, by remapping my keys to cather towards surfacing, I am removing shortcuts dedicated to the Painting workflow. Similarly, a keymap that is used for SubD will inevitably clash with the other workflows. Seeing as how Alias can switch workflows (Ctrl + 1/2/3/4/5 by default), would it be possible to have a dedicated set of keyboard shortcuts assigned to each specific workflow?
For instance, 'B' is used to change Brush Size, but in SubD it might be used to Bridge edges.  Reusing shortcuts also aids muscle memory where similar functions are set to the same hotkeys across various workflows. In Blender a similar system is in place, the object/edit (mesh)/sculpt/grease pencil modes and toggles modes by pressing a hotkey. Here I demonstrate the use of different align menus in object mode and in edit mode both using Alt+A as hotkey:  https://i.imgur.com/4nGkrzI.gif (the forums do not allow me to embed this gif).
On the right, the hotkey editor is shown, for which inputs are assigned per workflow or mode, shortcuts that are present throughout all modes are set in a different category.

Also, some text is cut off in the current editor when it is fully expanded in its width:
