Unable to drag keypoints freely with mouse

I am using Alias Autostudio 2016 and I am unable to move keypoints by selecting and dragging them freely with mouse. On the other hand I can still select them by clicking on them, which makes them turn bright green, and then typing the coordinates of the destination point. I can also select them and snap them to curves or points. In such cases, as soon as I attempted snap, I can release the Ctrl key and then I can move the keypoint freely. I suppose I should have been able to move the keypoint freely in the first place, without first attempting the snap and then releasing the snap to keep moving the keypoint.

So to summarise, a keypoint refuses to move freely with mouse without first snapping to a curve or a point! Is this how it should be? I am also unable to move the centre of a keypoint circle by dragging in any way, other than just moving the whole circle the normal way. I wonder what is wrong.

Hello there,

The last command on the Keypoint curve tools is DRAG.

Using this tool you will be able to drag and drop keypoints freely.

Please mark as solution if it solved the problem. Kudos are appreciated

I've tried cut-of -the-day and 2016, and 2020RTM and "Drag Keypoint works fine.  Could you make a screen cast.  Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.   You can get the software here...

In order for Drag keypoints to work, you have to be in one of the "true" dedicated orthographic views. You will find those under the "Layouts" menu bar.

Using the Perspective view with Ortho faces will not work.

Yes he is right, me too can not drag points of an elipse!!!!

I switch to top view with F5, and when I click on drag keypoints tool, points on elipse are not moving freely, but just in small increments, like its having a magnet snap to them,,,

so what is the problem...

its on alias studio 2020.3

thnks

It's possible that you have "snap to grid" turned on. Check the top right corner of your viewport to see if you have it on. You should see three icons with magnets (one for each type of snapping) that you can click on.

No, they are off.

Strange that with circle I can move freely points, with rectangle too, line, arc...everything works fine, but elipse no!!!!

Nothing,,,With elipse It wont move them, if I click on one point on elipse it moves very little, so I have to click several times in a row to move it in small increments, as if something is not aloowing a point to move....

Its really strange...

Hi,
Thanks for reporting. We can reproduce the behavior, it's a regression since Alias 2020 (worked fine in 2019.4). We have logged ALS-10108 for this, and will fix this as soon as possible.
Thanks,
GG

Unfortunately, due to legal implications, I'm not allowed to make any statement on that until the software is officially released, sorry.
