Alias to Catia Export

Hallo,

Thanks for all the effort you guys put into the Catia-Translator. Handle big Catia-Construction-Data is really much easier now, than just a few releases ago.

I have one question for exporting to Catia:

is there a way to keep more of the Data-Structure?

At the moment, if we export files to catia, the layers are converted into geometrical sets, but all the groups in the layers are combined (see picture Alias_to_Catia.png). would be better if the groups are converted too.

Is that an issue with our export settings, or are groups generally not supported by the exporter?

I'm using Alias Surface 2019.1 ; most of my collegues use different versions of Alias Surface 2018

kind regards

David

Hi,

the translator really became a lot better with the last Update of 2019 to 2019.1!

As far as I know there is no way to translate groups to CATIA. So it´s none of your settings that denies that. We also hope for more improvement here and have some suggestions for that. I have to ask whether I am allowed to share these.

Cheers, Marc

Hi David,

Hi Marc,

as Marc already stated, currently there is no way / magic option to have groups treated differently.

The data translation team is currently looking into that, and there will be some changes on how the Catia V5 converter will act on structural entities like layers,, groups etc. The main issue the team is struggling with is the fact that groups in Alias and groups in Catia have a different meaning.

Hello Thomas,

hello David,

could we discuss on how translation shall be performed in the sense of what is translated to which object or are the developers already working on it in a state which is not open to changes any more? I think it would be great to implement some user´s thoughts into this.

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Marc,

the definition phase is already finalized. We performed several workshops on that matter which involved a couple of OEMs of which we know that they are using Catia V5 frequently in their daily work flow. Actually, I think it is fair to say that we at Autodesk really listened carefully and now act accordingly.

Cheers

Thomas
