Alias fails to open IGES files from One-Drive

Hi folks,

Alias fails when trying to open IGES files from One-Drive, while it works fine when opening the same file locally:

Pretty annoying, when you work with two computers. 😕

Cheers,

GG

PS: The forum does not support to attach IGES files. If you should not be able to reproduce this, I can send the file via email, but the problem is not file specific.

Hi GG,

Not able to reproduce this error.. using 2025.1. Although the file size was only 256 KB.

Does it also happens with small files.

Hi GG,

the reason for this surprising behavior seems to be the German Umlaut "ä" contained in your original file path.

Please try the following:

  • Copy the original file from One-Drive folder having that Umlaut into a different folder on One-Drive which doesn't have a special character (no Umlauts, Accents etc.)
  • Repeat the IGS import from that new One-Drive folder
Expectation: this time the data comes in

Unfortunately, path names which special characters contained are not supported by data translators in general. This is a known limitation, I must admit.

Hth

Ah, yes, sorry, didn't recognize the root level folder "Selbstständigkeit", which I created several months ago, before I started using it also for Alias file exchange. Thanks, Thomas!
