Alias constant crashes no warning!

Hello. When using Alias i can barely model. The program randomly crashes with no option to save or stop it. it just crashes then the troubleshoot window comes up. I have reset the settings and preferences, ive updated all my drivers, and now im reinstalling the program.  my hardware is very good i have a good graphics card. cpu and 2tb of memory. please any suggestions.

@s45560552 which version of Alias are you using? Is Alias sending a CER report, or does it crash without? In case it crashes with a CER, could you please let me know the CER number?

Also, you are saying it crashes "randomly". Is there really no pattern or them you can identify (like, e.g., being in a specific tool, or triggering a certain action, before it crashes)?

thanks for your replies.  Yes it really has no pattern sometimes i could be rotating the camera, other times i could be moving a cv or using one of the tools like the square tool. 

i found this in the error log could be of some help? " Exception handling failed / interrupted by another error condition:

Hello I have the latest Alias version (2024.1). It just crashed right now, i was rotating the camera after saving the file. Ive attached both files you requested. Things ive tried so far:

making the system32 file not read only but access was denied. updated my graphics drivers. running alias as Admin. factory resetting my pc lol.

nvoglv64.dll is in the nvidia graphic driver.  Try uninstalling and re-installing your nvidia driver.

Also worth a try is to run the system file checker tool coming with windows.

The default way to do this is to run the following in an admin console in order:

1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
2. sfc /scannow

I had a brief look at the CER. But there is little new information. The crash happens while code contained in the nvidia OpenGL driver is executed. Now, it is possible for an application to crash a driver by passing invalid data of some sort. But I don't think this is the case here. Crashing as often as you describe would set this forum ablaze. Therefore, I suspect this to be specific to the used hardware or software (operating system, drivers, utilities).

Are you using other OpenGL applications on this machine? Have you tried running a benchmark? Can you monitor the temperature of your card, maybe using something like FurMark?

talked with Nvidia today about the issues and they said its definitely hardware issue. ordered a new Graphics card and hopefully that fixes the issue otherwise im throwing my whole pc away lol. but ye thanks a lot for the help everyone & will update the forum tommorow hopefully

@s45560552 while the code is crashing in the Nvidia driver, there is still a good chance that the problem might be located on the Alias side. As this is not easy to reproduce, I am working together with development at the moment, to get a special Alias build for in-depth quality assurance testing. I will let you know how it goes!

Hi, not sure if this could be part of the issue, and I didn't see it mentioned above... but in the past I've had times where there is a corrupt surface in my file leading to the crashes. Does this do this even with a new model with clean surfacing? Sometimes I have to start deleting surfaces (like -half the model at a time) and work for awhile to see if it still has problems, and narrow it down by half each time with the model "half" still causing trouble. Imported surfaces can sometimes cause this, but even Alias surfaces with twisting cv's or weird surfaces can cause these kinds of crashes.
