Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how I can get my control panel (which has shortcuts to my quick use tools) like I had in all earlier Alias studio tool versions (upto 2023)?

Thank you.

You can dock shelves wherever you like, including above/below/besides the control panel. There are predefined shelves to mimic the user interface from 2023 and earlier - you can find them in Windows > Shelves. Or you create your custom shelve. When scaling the height of a docked shelve, at some point, the title will disappear to save screen-space. This way you should be able to recreate your individual interface from 2023. Please, watch to following videos for reference:

See above, but simple answer, the control panel display can be activated by "Windows - Control Panel".

Thank you for your message. I followed the docking part, but sorry for querying. In earlier versions, I could simply go to my control panel shelves and change the panel to one where I have saved the toolbar. please, see the picture. But I cannot seem to do that in this version. So how do I get the control panel I have saved before? Or are you saying I have to create a new shelf and do this manually? That's such a task, which was never the case before when moving up versions, right?

Did you import your preferences from the previous Alias version? If not, you can also just import your shelves: In the previous Alias version go to Preferences > User Preferences > Export Preference Set...
In 2024 go to Preferences > User Preferences > Import and Merge OPTIONBOX. Switch off everything but Shelves, and hit Go. If you choose the file that you have created in the previous version of Alias, you should now have all your panel tool shelves listed in Windows > Shelves. Open it, and dock it above the control panel. If you need quick access to more than one, open another panel tool shelve and dock it on top of the first one (note the + sign appears). Now you have two tabs.

And yes - this is slightly different to previous upgrading of versions.

Hello, I am having the gsame problem. I am importing the pref sets I exported from 2023 and all I get is that the import failed.

I have tried unchecking all boxed and import each item one by one but with no result. It keeps failing.

Sorry, I exported from 2021 none the less it's still and .aps file containing the development of my prefsets through out the years and this tops all the frustration Alias has caused me along the career. If I need to rebuild all the prefs who will foot the bill for all the time needed to do this? Autodesk has surely increased the price for Alias along the years and the amount of problems/issues with the siftware didn't decrease.

@m_emil2004 can you please provide your .aps file, so we can have a look? In case you should have any issues with publishing it here, I can DM you my email address, if needed.

Thanks,

GG

Hi, apparently the .aps is not supported for this forum.

Please email me, so I can send you the aps file.

I tried importing again and it worked. It looks ok on the first sight but some of the short cuts/Hotkey I was using a lot have to be reassigned. I used to work a lot with the CV Move tool, this being reassigned to the transform section in the Palette might be the reason why I need to edit my hotkeys again. I will be checking how many are still working and take it from there...

@m_emil2004 I just tried to import the preferences you sent me into Alias 2024, and pressing "W" starts the Move tool for, like it does in Alias 2023.1? Can you please double check?
Happy to hear it's working for you in general now! Let me know whenever you see the one or other thing not working, as the preferences were completely reworked, we might have missed some things.

Thanks,

GG

As you can see in the image I have assigned hot keys to the skin tool, or the square tool, but none of these actually work! Why is that? I am using Alias Autostudio 2024

Hi!

I currently using Alias Surface 2024.

I am also having trouble with my hotkeys, most of them are working but the one for the scale tool (I have on "R" ) is not activating the tool. Move and rotate work just fine but not the hot key for scaling. The interface remains on the previous tool I was using.

These hotkeys are being eaten up by the prompt line.  By default Alias is in the hybred mode of single key hotkeys, where numbers (and r (for relative) or a (for absolute) ) are passed on the the running tool instead of being processed as hotkeys.  If you wish them to be processed as hotkeys you should select the little keyboard thing (next to the prompt line) to change to pure single key hotkey mode.

Hope this helps

Bob

I appreciate your response, but I'm having trouble understanding what you mean. Can you please clarify?

The letters "r" and "a" are used by some Alias tools to change between absolute mode ("a") and relative mode ("r"). Therefore, it can happen that these shortcuts don't work when you are in some tools.

If you want to prevent this from happening, use this button:

@Michael-GG and @malvikavijay2000 thank you very much for your help, I was used to typin in Rel or Abs in the promptline when using transform tools. I wasn't aware of the new feature but I was suspecting my hotkeys to be conflicting to some new default shortcuts etc.
