Whenever I try to copy a curve, surface, or object, such an error appears. I deleted the program and downloaded it again, but it's the same. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me the solution.

@koejkjk2 this might be an issue of the operating system language. Is assume it is not English, is it? Are there any special characters in the paths being mentioned in your error message?

Hi, yes in my case in the path after ALIAS_WIRE_CLIPBOARD.User.Name in User.Name I've got special characters. Polish in my case, like ąęćźżłóń.

MS Acoouts are created on Microsoft office admin, and there is no nice way to avoid them. I'm always changing the User folder, so there are no special characters and changing registry accordingly, but it doesnt help in case of Alias. Is there any way to change the patch, Alias is reffering?

@user67603 I will try to get someone in my team to test this, and let you know the result.

Stay tuned...

Can you send me the exact path of your username?  I am going to try to reproduce it.  I was able to get a POLISH Windows installed on my test computer and I added ENGLISH to it so that I can try ENU commands to get around the User Interface.

QA account = Alias will run

ąęćźżłóń account = Alias will not run.

I also created a folder "ąęćźżłóń" on the working QA account and when I try to open a file, Alias will crash.  This is a known issue and should be resolved in an update.  We have the same 'crashing' issue in a Japanese OS of Windows.

To confirm, you are launching Alias, create a sphere then copy, paste and you get the copy error.  At this time, I am testing with the released version of Alias AutoStudio 2024.

Where BARTLO~1 is BartlomiejGoraczko without any special characters. So the problem is when alias is creating temp directory which is ALIAS_WIRE_CLIPBOARD.UserName

Thanks for your patience so far....

1.  Alias will not run if there is a Polish symbol/letter in the account name.  I have tested it on my system running Polish version of Windows.

C:\Users\BartłomiejGorączko
C:\Users\ąęćźżłóń

I have logged an bug for this issue.

2. I created an account (new) and Alias was able to run and it was able to cut/copy/paste.

C:\Users\BARLO~1

3.  Renaming the name in the account:  BartłomiejGorączko to 'BART~1' will NOT allow Alias to run because the original account still  has a Polish symbol/letter in it.

4.  Are you able to use an account that is 'new' and doesn't have Polish letters/symbols in it?

In theory I can, but I've got cloud based account on Microsoft linked with email addresses and everything else.
So even that email addresses (whitch are also logins) doesn't have any polish special characters somehow alias is getting them, probably form users Name and surname, and don't work as it should.
Changing it is possible, but not wanted 😉
In my personal opinion Alias should be able to handle UTF-8.
We're one of the first of not first company in Poland that is buying alias licenses.
You have mentioned that the problem occurs also with Japanese language. How does it look with German or french alphabet and where they do have also special symbols?

This is a historical problem that I first faced when Alias moved from Irix to Windows. Since then it has never been possible to reopen any file whose name had characters such as ò, à, è, é, ù, very common in Italy. Finally, I see that Alias 2024 has fixed the problem.

I just tested opening a file (Windows 10 English) with the following names:

àHexPatternTEST.wire = French > Opens in Alias
äHexPatternTEST.wire = German > Opens in Alias
ąęćźżłóń..wire = Polish > Does not open in Alias
BartłomiejGorączko.wire = Polish > Does not open Alias

I think it is an issue on our side for sure. Typically, accents should be ok in Americas and EMEA.

@david.lauProblem in filenames is something that I was not aware of. We just don't use special chars there. But it shows, that the issue is not only with copy/paste function, but deeper, where support wasn't impemented for all languages
