Numbering: Sorting objects by different attributes

For the positioning, after numbering, one of the main problem is sorting the objects by choosing attributes from a list :

1. Material 
2. Profile type (if i's a plate or profile...)
3. Length
4. Weight

The sample is similar with ASD functionality.

This would also help us to sort Advance BOM based on preliminary marks, currently Advance BOM, if sorted by preliminary mark,

which is the way it is done in The USA, may end up showing mixed material all over the place

Hello,

I would like to add the AXIS order for the numbering.

For example, I need to decide if the numbering follow the X direction, after the Y direction and Z direction at the last;

in different way, I need to decide if the numbering follow the X direction, after the Z direction and Y direction at the last.

Advance BOM is sorted per size and thickness, for purchasing purposes it does not matter X, Y or Z direction.

For sequence of Main Part Marks-it depends on the sequence of detailing.

If you use  processes, let's say ALL MP  Each on B, then the direction will matter.

But it will get may-be more complicated than necessary because Advance BOM having preliminary numbers sorted is also important.

Unless there is an option preliminary numbers to be assigned per size and thickness, and MP numbers to be assigned per direction.

Advance BOM sorting is a time consuming process if you want to make it right.

Isn't preliminary numbering supposed to serve as Advance BOM?....

And isn't preliminary numbering a part of the numbering?
