Rolled Plates Should Not Act Like Folded Plates

Rolled Plates Should Not Act Like Folded Plates

Rolling a plate and bending a plate are two completely different process. Drawings produced for rolled plate look like garbage. I always need to explode a drawing of a rolled plate then delete all the fold lines.

Rolling should be a feature by itself and it should include option for .nc files to add material at the ends.

You can create a copy of the development drawing style, rename it rolled and set the system line to off so you don't have to explode drawings to delete the fold lines.

Problems is if you set the system lines to off they are also off in the original style.

You can also double click the plate in the development drawing and on the axes tab untick the system line colour then click update detail.

I'm not sure it's the system lines because on example below they are already off.

That drawing actually shows what I do for added material for rolling.

Depending on the radius and what machine determines how much additional material I need to add. I found that 12" at each end usually is fine. The little notches are fabricator aid to assist locating the actual end of the finished part. I was told by few rolling companies too that they like those notches so they can make sure the radius covers enough from the end. It would be a pretty sweet added feature if you ask me 😋. It could be a separate "NC" command building off the current command which lengthens the material predetermined amount from settings in MT and also possibly add end of part locating notches or scribe line or both.

How do you create your rolled plate?

It depends on the situation. This one in particular was a bit of trial and error and ended up using TWISTED FOLDED PLATE.
