Document manager update detail functions. “drawing validation check”

We have exhausted a large amount of hours reworking drawings after being advised the drawings needed updating and then force updated via the document manager (similar issues occur with updating within detail drawing). These drawings (assemblies) that have not changed, but an item/part overall quantity was changed as the same cleats were added to on another assembly.

When a force update is invoked we lose dimension, dimension move, labels change and section viewports move, meaning practically re-detailing the assembly again, even with all the MT option set to do not delete dimensions and the like.

I would suggest a new type of update similar to the (update labels), this could be called “drawing validation”, which would check the drawing rather than a completely updating it for no reason.

Austruct,

These are the same points I am trying to get attention to for the last 1-2 years through tech support and here on the idea station.

I spent 2-3-4-5 hours with tech support showing how dimensions move, snap / update with no reason. How labels move-not always-but in 95% -yes.

First answer was-this happens only on my workstation-'See-I just made the same manual update on my station, and nothing moved...' was the answer.

After a decent amount of effort from my side, it appeared that this is not only my problem.

Finally tech support was able to reproduce this with my AstorSettings.

Section viewports move with no reason.

Labels move with no reason. Especially in erection plans-it creates massive work after drawings are cleaned up once.

I will wait for the 2018 version to see what was improved, and my next step is to organize a meeting with lots of frustration on one side and executives on another.

I will probably not renew my maintenance until I see Advance Steel being a stable software.

Regards,

Ilko Dimitrov

P.S.:

Udo / Dumitru-no matter how many times you will put 'Future consideration', 'Old issue', 'No problem" etc. you will see same posts all over again until you realize there is an issue, and actually fix it.

The hardest part of this is-people with no pay checks on Fridays get hit most.

Yes, any efficiencies in productivity the software offers is thrown away with this issue {BUG}.

With that in mind we are also questioning the continued use of the software going forward as we are losing hours hand over fist compared to our other detailing packages due to the reworking/re-detailing of drawings after updates.

This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed now in the current version of the software and not prolonged into the next version and or the next version.

George.Fouler,

We are not far from the 2018 version.

What I would do-minimize the conversion from the old database in the beginning.

Even-no customization at all.

I will test the above-mentioned issues, if they are still present-we will have to sit with the BIM VP and Udo and talk.

What is also not to like-the attitude the tech support has.

Lousy answers, high school attitude. Lack of knowledge and experience.

This is my e-mail: acbsdesign@outlook.com

Everyone who thinks we do not have to pay for unstable software, losing hundreds of hours per year to re-work drawings-please send me a short e-mail, I will try to get the BIM VP on board for addressing these issues.

Udo-please do not delete a post that is not pleasant for your team. This attitude is not going to last for a long time.

@Ilko

I have one question belonging to this error. Do merge an old settings from the AS2016 or older?
We could reproduce this behavior with old databases (settings, AstorAddIn), after using the original, it works.
And yes this was hard work for the most people to get their settings and their detailstyles back, but it helped.

Sebastian,

Yes, I merged the old settings from 2016.

I realize probably I shouldn't have to.

I am fast with AstorAddin and MT modification-I do have a list of what I have to do each year to get the previous year results.

What I noticed - I used to have Acrobat X Pro. When I uninstalled it, software became more stable.

Dimensions are updating /moving less.

But the labels are still moving, a big P.I.N.

And the section views are moving after initial adjustment.

Thank you for you input.

Sebastian,

The whole purpose of the astoraddin is to go from version to version (year to year) without having to keep track of the thousands of settings that we have adjusted.

I had proposed a while ago in the ideas forum about separating the databases in the astoraddin so the detailing side of the database is separated from the remainder of the settings. This allows drawings styles and processes to evolve without affecting the rest of the databases, and also allows separate detailing databases per client if necessary.

We have tested the detailing with the base settings and we found similar results or marginal improvement.

These concerns directly affect productivity and need to be addressed as the highest priority, as our trust and confidence in the product is fading.  We cannot afford to re-detail and recheck drawings after an unnecessary drawing updates.

Hi Austruct,
believe me, I know what the AstorAddIn is for, I'm working with AS every day. And yes you're right, this should be repaired with the highest priority, but the development had to find out "why" are these things are happened. And so sometimes, we had to test it for them, we couldn't only it should work, it's a co-work, both sides should be work together or not?
But I think this is not the place to discus this.

Sebastian,

Where, The H..LL,  is the place to discuss this?

Should I get on the plane and knock on the developers' doors and start yelling that there is an issue.

What is the thing we are trying to keep as a secret-lousy attiitude, or overlooked problems?

Or why we should pay another 2 grand in December?
