Use SQL Server for Advance Steel Databases instead of SQL Express Instance

Is it possible to use the SQL instance that stores the Plant3D databases as the instance to store the shared Advance Steel databases?  We have a SQL Server for PLANT3D and our IT department does not want to create an instance or install SQL Express on the same server for Advance Steel.

Hi,

That is working. I did that already. Advance Steel internally is using the LocalDB Server which gets installed with Advance Steel. It is in the installation package in the 3rd Party folder.

The limitation is as far as I know thatb it should be a 2014 server, otherwise AS cannot read changed data or newly created data. This I would crosscheck.

We need to share the databases on the network. We have a SQL Server in a datacenter that is used for the PLANT3D databases. I would need to save the SQL Express databases that come with advance steel to different version and then attach them to the SQL Server. I was not sure if this would work the same way as using Express.

Our server team is going to stand up a new server just for the SQL Express 2014 Advance Steel databases. Since we are using SQL Server 2016 for PLANT3D, they will not mix versions on a server or have two instances.
