Tube connection

Hi everyone. I have a bit of experience in using AS and I found a nice connection to try and replicate.

I started by using the connection "Tube end to end", but I don't know how to make the small cuts for where the bolts should fit. Any ideas?

it probably won't be thick-walled pipes, it looks like welded flanges, but maybe I'm wrong...😉

Here two solutions (see DWG attached):

- as welded flange on tube

- as thick walled tube

 

Your solution depends on the actual implementation, which unfortunately was not described.

Thank you for your examples. It looks very good. I tried using a thin wall tube and adding verical plates for the cuts and cap of holes, but I could not model a vertical rounded plate 😞

Is that even possible?

Hi,

 

to get the right direction for a plate, you need first to set the UCS with Z-axis perpendicular to the plate surface as needed.

 

I would say that your flanges are either forgings or castings that were welded onto the tube.

That's why the screw pockets in your photo have that shape. It can probably be made from thick sheet metal, with a slightly different pocket shape. Then just weld it to the front of the tube and you're done. In my example, I also used a round profile welded to the tube.

Hi,

 

I created plates pependiculat to the flanges, but they are only straight ones. I don't know how to create perpendicular plates that are rounded or that can follow a polyline 😞

Create a polyline (circle):

Have a look at the possible commands for plates - you will find this one (_AstM4CommPline2Plate in command line):

Go through all panels and commands, test / train / gain experience

I tried that and the result I get is a circular plate and not a vertical one.

I also tried creating a vertical plate following a polyline by using the Beam,Polyline and Beam,From Line commend but none of them are working.

I don' understand, what do you really want.

 

Create polylines with different UCS or rotate them to the UCS as needed:

Use the tool to create plate from polyline:

Edit the plates thickness and  use further as you need. 

 

You can try to train the basic commands (object creation, object manipulation) for 2D / 3D objects in AutoCAD, which are naturally also available in Advance Steel.

Maybe I didn't explained it well enough. What I wanted is to create a vertical plate with this shape. The one in the picture I created using simple Acad polyline contour and extrude.

1) Create beam on polyline = polybeam (eg. flat):
