I just try to avoid to use drawing styles, since I only need plan, elevation and details for engineering drawing set.

So, I am working around to use AutoCAD viewport way to create engineering drawing set so far so good(not fabrication drawings), except the paper space dimension of course not works well (I have to work around by pre-set paper space dimensions or make them in model space ). It cannot automatically generate correct Dim scale linear on advance steel objects (still works on 3d solid and 2d elements).

Is it possible to make that function happen? I know drawing styles is the right way to go, but I am just curious the reason behind and possibilities.

Good Afternoon,

Same problem here.

Here is a link to a forum post about the same issue:

Here is link to the 'Advance Steel Ideas' forum as well:

Hey, I remembered paper space dimension scale problem is an known issue in Autodesk knowledge page.

Hope they can have solution....

So far, my work around:

1. create viewport with the proper scale

2. draw a 2D object (such as: rectangle) in model space

3. go back to paper space, put dimension on 2d object, which will give paper space correct dim scale linear value

4. copy the above dimension to finish annotation.

If you know the scales will be used, you can create bunch different scale paper space dimensions as annotation library.

How do you guys solve this problem?

Thanks.

of course, we also can create different dimension style with scales....

Another option is match properties from a good dimension (to get the scale correct), then grab the ordinate point and move it to the model space 0,0.

Sounds good. So the dimension is still paperspace dimension, right? I also tried to use dimension in model space, but found annotative (or best fit) with different UCS could be really messy.

Correct, it's still a paperspace dimension.

You could also dimension the Advance Steel objects in model space (it dimensions correctly in model space), then go to paperspace, chspace on the viewport to bring the dimension over to paperspace, but it's more of a hassle.

I honestly wish the details were generated in modelspace in the first place. Not only would this make dimension scaling easier, we would also be able to xref AS views into other drawings (something that is seriously lacking for engineering consultants).

Agree. AS seems to be designed from fabrication perspective, but obviously it could be more powerful, since it based on AutoCAD platform.
