Structural Analysis of an Advance Steel Model

Hi all, I am an EIT who has been learning AS for the past few months to detail small structures for my job. I am now looking to learn to analysis structure members and connections in my AS models. I am wondering what is the best software to do this in? Is importing my AS model into Robot Structural the best option? Thanks!

Hi,

You can export your AS model as an SMLX file using the Revit Export command. Then import that file into Robot Structural Analysis.

You can also import the same SMLX file into Graitec's own Advance Design software that is more up to date that Robot and easier to use. If using Advance Design you can also try the GTCX format via the Advance Steel PowerPack.

I don't know about Robot but AD has a module that can analyse various industry standard joints and recognises them from AS. If you want to be able to analyse any custom joint you like then you need to look at some software called Ideas Statica which I believe is unique in the ability to do that. That can also import models from AS.
