I attached two screenshots but I am having issues setting up my drawing area. I know the tool "Quick Document" but that doesn't seem to be working. If you look at my screenshots, the layout area does not show my drawing. Any help would be great on how to go about setting up a layout to show the top, front, back, and side views.
Thanks!

Also, if I do use "Quick Documents", it wants me to select "model objects", but when I select my drawing I get the error, "No main part selected".. Again, any help would be great.

Hi,
sorry for my English. I'm from Germany.
"No main part selected" means there is no part the main part in your structure, you want to draw.
Most drawing styles are based on main parts. One part of your structure must be the main part.
For example: You want to detail a beam with two endplates. One of these three parts must be the maint part of this structure.
AS will automaticaly create main parts while numbering. You can do this manually in the AS Properties. There is a register card which shows you the single
an main part Pos Num, there should be a message like "Make this part to main part". After doing this you can give a main part Pos Num and you can now
select your structure for detailing.
Ihope that I could help you.
Greetings
Joerg

I believe I have now labeled all my pieces of my drawing. The next problem I run into is creating a drawing. I am using "Quick Documents", going to "View", "View V - NoDim NoLab"..I then select "Use" which pulls up the "Drawing Type" window. Is there a setting I should be selecting in this window because what I have been doing is just going with everything default that is there and selecting "OK". I select my paper format and hit Okay and save. I then go to open up the drawing which I hope is a SW Isometric view but it only gives me a "top" view. How do I go about setting it so I can get an isometric 3d view as well as a side view, back view, front view, etc..and also if these different views could be on the same drawing, that would be even better!....
THANKS!!
Chris

Hi Chris,
you must use the correct UCS.
For a isometric view on your modell you must set the isometric UCS with this command from the toolbar.
Here is what I mean:
Important: The view direction is against the positive z-axis of your UCS.
If you want to create a side view, you hat to set the UCS with the X- and Y-Axis parallel to this side
I hope I could help you.

Thank you! This is great help. Now all I need to figure out is how to get multiple views onto the same drawing sheet.

Hi,
you can do this in the windows below.
Under the red marked tab you will find all the drawings you have made from the current modell. Select the drawing you want and the new view
will be created on this drawing.
IMPORTANT!
If you later want to move a detail from a drawing to another drawing DO NOT use copy and paste! Use only the document manager!
In this manager you can drag and drop the detail from the old to the new drawing without any problems.

Hi,
you are using quick documents. Is this right?
In Quci Documents dialog window you can find entries for drawing styles, processes and templates.
If you use a process after selecting this process this window appears:
You can give a starting drawing number and a delta (if more than one drawing is created) or you can click on + to select an existing drawing.
If you use a drawing style after selecting a style this window appears:
Make your selections / entries and click OK.
This window appears now:
Here you can select a prototype you wnat to use for detailing or you can select a existing drawing.

I was using Quick Documents because that was the only way I knew at the time to make a drawing. I made multiple Quick Drawing views and wanted to put them all on the same sheet. If there is a more convienent way of making a shop drawing and I will accept any recommendations..currently this is what I am looking at...
Here are my seperate drawings,
So I already have these drawings prepared..I will try the steps you have just listed but if you know of any other way to put them on one drawing, I am all ears.
All this help is great, I just started using Autocad last week so these questions may be basic.
Thanks!

Hi,
You can easily use the document manager to move different elevation drawings to different drawing locations.
Just left click on the elevation hold the left button down & drag to the drawing where you want it to appear. See below:-
Hope this helps

I am not sure I quite understand,
I have my three seperate drawings and all I want to do is show all three on the same drawing. I don't want specific details for each drawing just the three I have..example would be a drawing in the top corner, right corner and lower left corner of one large drawing. I have been trying to use Quick Documents and Drawing Processes but there are no procceses that accept just my three drawings. They all go into more detail than I want.

Hi,
Using the drawing manager you can drag all your individual views into a single drawing.
In your snapshot of the drawing manager each individual view shows up as "+ 3 3" just drag all of these into the first drawing one at a time (e.g. Aerial 1.dwg) & then manually rearrange & adjust scaling as necessary, it really is that simple.
Hope this helps

That was extremely easy. I wasn't clicking on the right file to drag. Thank you all. I appreciate all the help!

Is there a way to make the isometric drawing solid colors? Also, one last question, how do I make holes that go entirely through a rectangular tube? The way I am doing things seem so raw.
Thanks.

Hi,
if you need more help here is the link to the AS Support site.
http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/advance-steel#?sort=score
There you can find the official documentation and a lot of FAQs, examples and more.
And you should search for AS on youtube. There you can find a lot of videos about this programm (sometimes older versions).
And take a look on Management Tools (you can find it in the ribbon). With this tool you can control the settings of AS.
