Select bolts from selected bolt holes?

Hi all,

I have a large model and need to change the bolt assembly (larger washer) for all bolts in slotted holes.

These are manual bolts, not from joint macros.

I can select all the correct slotted holes via "Search and Mark Objects", but this will only let me access the hole properties and not the bolt properties.

Is there a way to select bolts from selected bolt holes?

...I know you can do so from a single selected hole via "joint properties", which opens the bolt dialog, but if you have multiple holes selected, this is not available.

I can't search by bolt type as there are similar bolts without slotted holes and I don't want to change these.

Any ideas?

I'm not on PC ... maybe bad idea ... it's possible to create one query to find bolts with slotted hole?

There is no parameter for hole type in the bolt search.

Perhaps maybe there's a trick you could use with layers? Or isolate the holes then point to them them with a custom marker (block?) of some sort? Might at least help cut down on time. The S&MO might help get you close, but apparently doesn't have that ability to filter that specific parameter. 😕

Do all the parts with slotted holes only have slotted holes or also normal holes? If only slotted holes, then you can filter the connecting material for these parts and then select the properties of the bolts.

I could if the bolts were already on a different layer! ...but they are not, and selecting them all at once is the issue.
Holes are on the layer of the object they pass through, so it's not like I can select all the holes and change layer to change the bolt layer - it doesn't work like that unfortunately.
Thanks anyway.

Unfortunately, the parts have both round and slotted holes.
I have done similar already, but then have to select the bolts with slotted holes manually.
Seems a bit of an oversight, but no easy way to do it.
Thanks all for suggestions anyway!

I wish we could be more help with this. And yeah, the filtering options in S&MO need a complete overhaul... could be said for other aspects, too *coughDocumentManagercough*

I guess it's time to set up a good playlist and start hunting & pecking 😕

@Drawtech,

a query for slotted holes can find all the slotted holes (created via bolt).

"_AstM4CommMultiEdit -1" can, unfortunately, select and edit one hole object (group) only, ... maybe you can create a LISP to get all the holes through ... ask the AI 😎
