"K" values for cope

has anyone else noticed that the program is using the wrong "K" value to create the copes?

When you have a beam to beam connection a cope is usually required at the top and possibly the bottom depending on the supporting beam size.  To create the top flange cope, we normally use the "use "K" value" option in the joint box.  This works fine except that on a recent job we noticed that the copes were not matching our chart values.

after some investigation we realized that the values shown in the beam properties for the "K" value are actual the values for the "K1" value.  Per AISC database, the "K1" value is the horizontal dimensions.  for example the k1 value for the beam W8x10 is 1/2" and the vertical "K" value is 11/16".

The cope on the beam should have been a minimum of 11/16", instead it was 1/2".  It wasn't a big deal because the beams were small but when you get to bigger beams there will be a clash.

just curious if anyone else noticed this.

I have noticed this as well.  Instead of using the default W sections.  Go to all, and select zzzobsolete and use those sections they are correct.  It  has the same member sizes as the default and the K values are correct.
