Problem installing for first time use

Hi,

Just purchase annual subscription for AutoCAD with Advanced Steel 2016.  Downloaded but when running the installation I get an error saying that directx needs to be installed first?  I've checked all the Windows updates have been applied and the PC is up to date (Windows 10).

I believe Windows 10 has directx included?

Any help appreciated?

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Chris,

Advance Steel is stil not certified to work with Windows 10, however, it will work with it. I am not sure why you are getting this error, but are you doing a full install of Advance including all libraries as all sorts of things will be loaded. Do a full uninstall of any programs loaded, reboot, check that al Windows updates are installed, check that your video drivers are up to date and that your card will support DirectX12, reboot again, turn off any antivirus software running and try installing again.

Thank you so much for the reply - I have done all suggested and it works! 🙂

One slight issue though, when I open Advanced Steel it appears to be set to American standards rather than UK and I can't see how to change it.  When installing the default was english-us which is what I left selected (the PC did originally come from the US).  I think when I was having the failed installs I'd selected english-uk though - perhaps this is going to be an issue for me!

Is there a way of changing to default to UK standards on Advanced Steel now it is installed...?

I'm new to the software so I'll have a look around tomorrow but any comments appreciated...

Cheers,

Chris.

I had this same issue, if you downloaded from your account, you don't use the installer on the main screen otherwise it will be the US installer (unless this has been fixed).

You need to click on "Downloads"  then when in the window Under the "Download Now" click on "More Options" and use the Browser Download (see attached file). It is slower but will load the installer files onto your computer. When installing read each screen carefully and always select (in your case) English British, this will configure it for you and load your localisation files. Again make sure you check every screen carefully.

I am sure I will be corrected by Aleck Giles who is the English expert on this product and take what he says over my words any day.

Good luck as you will need to do a complete uninstall and start over. Sorry.

Hi,

On Autodesk knowledge is a section about installing and uninstalling advance steel 2016.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/advance-steel/troubleshooting/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/E...

I would check under program data / Autodesk / advance steel, that it had removed all the d

To continue previous : check all the databases are removed from the system, prior to any reinstall.

Thanks Guys for your help.

I removed and re-installed everything as suggested.

Now there is a different problem in that I cannot use the installed software - when opening I get a message saying "contact administrator to use this product".  I guess this is because I'd already activated the seat using the license code.

I've tried re-setting on the Autodesk account management but when trying to edit user access the window does not open (currently set to no products or benefits on my user profile as I removed the access before re-installing).

I guess I'll need to contact the reseller and get the Autodesk re-set now.

KInd regards,

Chris.
