Numbering positions from 1, 2, 3 and so on, without 1000, 1001,...

Greetings experts,

I have a problem with numbering, especially with numerical order. What I want to have is positions in BOM from 1, 2, 3, with the same beams and other parts in alphabetic order.

I wonder:

- I don't know why they don't go in the order of 1,2,3…XX? It looks a little messy like this.

- What is the difference between pos 1 and pos 1000 or 2 and 1001?

- 1004 and 1005 are the same positions in my opinion. Why did AS separate them for me as individual positions?

I understand that there are single parts and assembly parts with their numbering method (SP 1000, 1001; MP 1, 2).

How to set that both SP and MP after numbering are set in order with positions also in alphabetic order of beams in the description from 1, 2, 3, etc., and without 1000.

Is there a solution for this situation?

I am attaching the AS model in the 2024 version if anyone wants to play with the numbering.

Hi @radic_dominik,

depending on the settings in your model, your numbering method is not set to what you require.  You must understand how the basic numbering (rules) work.

You will eventually find a lot of material for numbering on YouTube.

Try to understand what the numbering means for MP - all parts firmly connected to MP have the same MP.

For your purpose, you have to choose a setting without a method (none). I recommend using different numbering for SP and MP (e.g. SP from 1 - xxx, MP from 1000 - xxxx, or otherwise suitable).

I supposed that for my situation I should use numbering without a method (none).

I will use this as best as I can and make something practical and satisfactory.
