We are giving a shot to Advance Steel, but struggling with interoperability in IFC format. Models made in Tekla never presented any issue.
When exporting as IFC 2x3, we have bolts, but no C-Section profiles in Navisworks, while in BIMVision the C-Section appears, but no bolts:
When exporting as MVD EM .11, bolts become lines, some other elements disappear, and still no C-section profiles in Navis. Still no bolts, same elements disappears, and C-Sections shows in BIMVision:
From everything we've read on the forum, we tried creating a series of beams using different methods, and no C-Section are imported in Navis, while all are in BIMVision (even then, the reinforcements don't appear):
We must be doing something wrong, because makes no sense that a raw export wouldn't be perfect inside Autodesk environment.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
PS: We tried direct export to Navis, and the result is the same.

Version of Advance Steel? Original sections from the database or user profiles?
If you load the ifc in bimvision and the C-sections are seen, it should be not problem of Advance Steel..this is a problem of navisworks or not?

AS 2024, and the sections are OOTB.
It kinda makes sense, but as I mentioned, the native "Export to Navisworks" gives the same result, so it isn't just an IFC thing.
If I open a model made of the "same" parts in Tekla, they all show in Navis. So it should be something with AS. Here's the IFC of a sample model from Tekla:

If you don't see objects in navisworks but in other viewer, why should this be a problem of Advance Steel? The navisworks export is just a 3d DWF this is not a native export.
And the comparison with Tekla is just say nothing... Tekla use other native objects, other exports...so why should we compare these files? The objects of Advance Steel are written in the files but navisworks could not show them. Could you upload your ICF file test from Advance Steel?
Which version of navisworks do you use?

Sorry but this is wrong.
There were issues in the past, but by exporting IFC files out of Advance Steel since the last 2-3 Years, had not so many errors.
Advance only export specific objects, that is correct, so you will not get an AutoCAD Line or something like that.
But as I know there should be no problem with AS object which are included in the out of the box databases.

I tested it:
AS2024 - Navisworks 2024 --> Navisworks DWF:
But the IFC is not shown. I have a look in the IFC file itself. The C-section is there, so the navisworks has a problem by showing it.
By using a viewer the ifc is correct:
different viewer:
I opened the file in Revit:
maybe @Emanuel.Nestor could have a look and could give a few more information

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche,
I just ran a test on my side, and the C profiles are correctly shown in Navis Manage 2024.
Please see the attached test model, IFC 2x3, IFC MVD, and DWF files.
Here is the image from Navis after appending all of them:
Do I miss something?
Best regards,
Emy

Hi Emy,
sorry for my late answer. I'm doing something wrong...
Export as IFC 2x3
Import in Navisworks:
I attach you my ifc

additional: If I load your IFC file into my navisworks...the result ic complete another as it should be
I know there're C- Profiles...but Navis show me a HEA100 and a UPN260
I'm a bit confused 🙂

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche,
First, the IFC file itself is correct. I can import it back into Advance Steel, read it with "Open IFC Viewer" --> all good.
So, it seems that "something" is happening on the Naviswork's side.
There are multiple settings in Navisworks related to IFC.
An important one is the "Conversion method" set for IFC:
(On my side, I am using the "Legacy").
Which one do you use?
Also, do you have "IFC for Revit 2024" installed on your side? If yes, which one?

Best regards,
Emy

Hi,
the conversation method was the point.
I never changed this as I Know. In germany this is called :
Which could be translated to:
So "older" version sounds not good to the most users =).
But now it works and maybe this is a setting which helps others
