Input geometry, profiles and materials in tabular format - is it possible in Advance Steel?

I would like to specify the coordinates of nodes, element connectivity and other parameters in a table (for example in Excel) and import this table to Advance Steel. Is this possible? What options do I have?

What software are you exporting from.

 

Typical you  could try one of the import methods,  that use an xml format to transfer on data of this nature.

 

look for smlx import to advance steel on google, or SDNF as some examples

Thank you for your reply John. I am not exporting from any software, I just want to create the geometry and specify everything from scratch, but instead of it being graphically, I would like to use a table. From your answer it seems the only option is to write some code that takes my table and transforms it into an XML file suitable for Advance Steel.

Hi, you can "import" lines and then convert them to beams. Just create a table with the coordinates and copy it to the command line. For example: "line 0,0,0 5000,0,0 5000,2000,0 ". You can also have coordinates in rows.

the free plugin Dynamo for Advance Steel is very suitable for this, it allows parametric programming inc. import of all information. Take a look at YouTube or Github. There are plenty of examples.
