I am running Advance Steel 2018.  I am having an issue with checking the box for Caged Ladder Exit parameters but not getting access to those parameters.

HI,

You must have your ladder exit set as straight on the Ladder > Ladder Exit > Exit Type setting. Anything else and the macro can't create an exist cage. .

This is a huge flaw in an otherwise decent macro but it has always been this way.

As a work around:- It is likely you always use a similar exit on your ladders so you need to model the exit once manually and then you can simple copy and paste it form one model to another. If you use Exit type 6 you can get an automatic exit cage created by the macro if you model a ladder the wider width all the way up. Then you can copy that one to your proper ladder.

To add to Aleck's comments, we sometimes turn this into a custom connection for the cage, bring it in and attach to ladder stringer as required.

After I posted this I was able to get the Exit macro to turn on by setting my ladder Exit to "Straight" as you mentioned.  Our company uses an Exit Type 6 as a standard on all our ladders with a straight cage all the way up.  It seems odd that the Macro allows you to create a flared Exit but not allow the cage to extend all the way up.  This is OSHA Code.  I see this as more than a little flaw. If I built a ladder that this macro creates I would get flagged by inspectors every time.

I also see a flaw in the Cage, Brace Distance #5 macro.  Why are the #5 and #6 settings tied together?  I must be missing something there.

I'm new to Advance Steel but have been designing structures for 20+ years.  I have not modeled in Advance Steel yet.  I'm up for the challenge though.

HI,

You cannot create ANY exit cage in the Cat Ladder macro if the ladder exit is anything other than straight. You will have to make another ladder that is straight. Create the exit cage on that. Copy the relevant pieces to your first ladder and then delete the temporary ladder.
