Is it possible to insert a hexagon shaped ladder rung? Do I have to create a user profile for this?

no this is not possible in the structural element.
I would use a round one, to have the points from the other beams, and then create the heaxagon and copy it to the place I want.

What are the hexagonal bars you want to use?
You should be able to add any profile and user profile to be a ladder rung.
I thought the cage should have a hexagon contour...if the bar should have this section: I'm not 100% sure, but I thought only round and flats are working.

We're trying to use the hexagon as the ladder rung. I did find the Atlas shape and can place it from line but I've been unable to use it through the ladder custom properties.
I want to add the hex shaped rung by Atlas but it doesn't give me that option but all the others Atlas has appear. I have tried adding it as a preferred size through Management Tools but it hasn't appeared and I have reloaded the setting so that's not it.
ok,
so you had to create the section and then had to add it to the cage ladder macro.
This should work but i'm not sure, if I have a little bit time, I will try it.
Another way could be: open the profilemastertable of the astorProfiles and change the Subtypename from your created USR profile to "F" (which stand for Flat).. but this is also not testet from my side

Edit_ the last way by changing the subtypename is definitely working.

This is what you need to do, it works with any user profiles you create.
If you add the letter Q you can rotate the rung if you need to.

Sebastian you lost me? I didn't create a user section it's available through Atlas shapes. When I use the custom cage ladder it doesn't allow me to choose this specific Atlas shape. I've tried added this to preferred profiles and so far it hasn't worked.
same procedur: search the Atlas and maybe change the subtypename to "D" for Round profiles, and then you could use it (in german it's not translated well 😃 ---"sechskantbalken"

Thank you Mick that spelled it out. I don't understand why this isn't an available as a standard 1018 shape. A hexagon for a ladder rung is standard practice in the U.S. Now it appears correct but I need to manipulate the BOM /dwg to read correctly.
