HAT No. 1:

Hi Devs,

Sometimes cap plates or base plates have beams running not at 90 degrees, and the default dimensions do not work:

The funny part is not only Graitec's and AD's negligence, it is some of the users who don't say anything.

"Let me work on this project as long as I can, and let me get my paycheck on Friday, quietly existing. Nicely comfortable sitting at my desk, why bother pointing out what is wrong? Better keep my hands clean. Let someone else do the dirty work. I will fix my dancing dimensions after an update, and reposition labels after an update, who cares if my employer pays more than expected? Oh, wait, I am no longer employed, I am on my own now, but STILL it is better not to say something, to be that nice guy. Not to be a TROUBLEMAKER."

@acbsdesign,

AD has a different interest than AS, it is a very popular SW, starting with R and ending with T. In the middle stands a technology partly taken over from AS.

AD needs AS. Otherise will end up trailing by a lot the competition. Not a decent detailer is using Revit for main detailing software if we don't count a few engineering companies willing to do detailing. what kind of detailing they are doing we can only guess, but they pay and they exist, though in very small numbers.

I find it also so shameful lack of communication between AD and users.

I have heard from AD two times this fall-"it is time to renew subscription" in both cases.

I mean, from resellers.

Not from AD.

They are busy.

Building the future of the future.

They don't deal with less important, simple users.

Hi Devs,

Please fix also MP default dwg style for angle bracing.

Hi devs,

Please also fix the Tube bracing dwg style:

This is more complicated, but it has to be done so all users can save time detailing it:

I think most of us are busy learning new CAD-Software right now 🙂

AS looks like a dead end to me. So much potential but no improvements in sight. It just gets even worse for us. I have crashes in combination with special parts in 2022 and 2023. Just hoping the best for 2024 Version...

What new software.

AS is not dead.

No one kills a software with half or a million and more hours in development.

They all say they are better, ending up just the same only either more expensive or lacking the AS flexibility.

To say AS is dead it is premature.

AD is a great company after all.

I have to use HiCad from ISD. Good performance and license management. I miss my drawing styles but the modeling is okay. New software always clumsy at the beginning. We need better performance and visualisation for our projects. AS cant handle large models with steel structures and mechanical components like engines, clutches and so on.

We tried the combination Inventor with AS but it is annoying as hell. AD has 50 different products and we lost track. In addition the license policy is not good.

Hi, Are you sure you would prefer that HiCag thing and not use AS?

Watched their video about the "press of the button" BS-I told you, they all say the same.

BUT-their assembly did not have holes in the web dimensioned, and not only there.

Just as an example, Clowns are everywhere-keep your eyes open before buying.

If it is going to come from your personal finances, of course.

Otherwise-I would buy a Maserati first.

HAT No.4:

Hi @bigcarl5000kg

Quarter finals and between.

I did also slightly improve the beam section dwg style-labels placement- overall time for adjustments. 1-2 seconds here, and there and by the end of the project seconds become hours.

W16 beam (W400)-Very average size, scale 1 1/2"=1'-0" -the most-common for beams up to W18.

acbsdesign_0-1670778927475.png

W24 (W600), same scale:

acbsdesign_1-1670779110101.png

My Labeling strategy:

1. Shear Plates:

2. Slotted Holes:

HAT No.5-THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT:

I will also mention-overall dimensions for shear plates, especially for the extended shear plates along Y are not required. Same for stiffeners. They have no meaning because they fit within the flanges.

And approver may get some sparks flying or says why this dim does not match the real distance between the inner faces of the flanges.

Then we have to explain to the hat only no cowboy thing that there is installation tolerance, milling tolerance etc and UNLESS a tight fit or mill to bear is required, it will be better for them to hang that hat somewhere and...we know what.

I know that your knowledge and skills are at a higher level than the equivalent in AS. Unfortunately, it won't save this one. Nevertheless, many thanks for your daily struggle, perhaps sometimes with windmills 😉. Don't rest on your laurels, the only constant in the universe is the change. Have a nice start into new work week a stay ... tuned for (more) better future. Maybe one day at some nice lake, we'll find out that it was a game about us... No, No struggle, but some things are real PIN, but it is what it is.

There are 2 defaults in MT, MIN distance for labels, and Label tag to edge end, I called them MT1 and MT2. MT1 is at 3/16", MT2 is at 1/16".

acbsdesign_0-1670796606977.png

Yes, we don't have to stop improving.

Some things are a real PIN though...what prevails where and why.

Weld over dimension?

Strange.

It should be dimension prevails over the label.

Welds push dimensions away. Really?

This is what the Graitec thing had in mind?

You have a good start of the week too!

If a plate is labeled on one view and if it is Front-length, then why overcrowd views with the same plate label on other views?

We have the compass on both front and top/bottom views, and if a plate is already labeled when represented Top, then IMO it is much cleaner not to label it again when Front-length.

Also-Labels for plates have to be coordinated with labels for holes.

Chose one to be the "main" or "leading", and one to be coordinated so it does not interfere with the first chosen.

Dimensions-my dimensions from the column system and column face to holes are much cleaner and work much better for multi-level columns.

If it is made of steel, I can model it and detail it.
