Grids are Uneditable

Hello,

I'm new to Advance Steel (Advance Steel 2026), having just gone through Deepak Maini's textbook. I'm working on reproducing an old model/drawings my boss gave me to practice on. I've gotten stuck on setting up the grids. The grids in the attached file are un-editable. How come I can't edit the grids? See drawing attached.

I have the levels set up correctly. I need grids at T/CONC, T/STL1, and T/STL2. Some grids apply to all levels and some grids apply only to certain levels. Another question is how do I get grids to show up correctly at all levels, if I need to delete, say, grids B through H at T/STL1 and TSTL2, but still have the grids present at T/CONC?

Also how come my grids aren't showing up at T/STL2?

I looked for the answer on the web and could not find it. I appreciate any insight you have.

Also, does anybody have any resources for learning Advance Steel besides Deepak Maini's book, YouTube, and this forum? Like a Mastering Advance Steel book like was produced for Revit? It doesn't seem like there are many good resources for learning this (complicated) software. An in-depth resource on how grids operate would be imminently useful.

Hi,

As you have saved the file the grid you are seeing is not the true grid object. It is a projection of the object only the level you are showing in the Project Explorer. Turn off all levels so you can see the whole model and then the grid will jump back to the bottom level. You can edit the true grid there. With grid projection turned on the grid will be the same on all levels and show in all camera drawings above the grid. If you want different lines showing at different levels you don't want grid projection. Turn off grid projection in the grid properties. Then copy or draw new grids on each level and edit as needed to show just what you want on that level.

There are no other published books that I am aware of. Deepak's books are good but different countries work quite differently with AS and using the settings for one country with advice from another can cause a lot of confusion (particularly around numbering and drawings). I would strongly recommend that you get proper training from a reputable dealer in your country. Check the dealer really knows Advance Steel as most dealers out there do not really know it at all. Graitec or Man & machine would be good choices. They both have offices all over the world.

Thank you. I ended up starting over and was more methodical the second time, but now I know for next time. Thanks for the lead on training. I do have one person I work with who knows Advance Steel pretty well to learn from, but I'm trying to do as much on my own as possible.
