Export Advance Steel 2019 KISS to Strumis

My customer advises that Strumis requires the Assembly mark number to be different than the Main Part number.  Have any of you experienced this and what solution have you found?

? The assembly number is the mainpart number. So how it could be different?

That is the problem. For example a column. We assign an Assembly number in
Advance Steel and that is typically the shaft of the column. However
Strumis wants an Assembly ID and then each and every part of the assembly
will have a "fixture" or single part that combines for the Assembly. As
part of the fabrication effort even the shaft as a single part would be
included on the gather sheets.

It sounds to me like they want to be able to reference each single item. I would try saving your model as another name and re-numbering. There is a flag somewhere that says "every single part gets its own part number", in not so many words lol. For them to calc it "easier" each part needs to be independent of one another for their reports.

...and fix the kiss export issues.

Hi,

It sounds like you need to renumber the model using the "Post Number Method" at the top of the numbering dialog box set to "None". Then the Main Part will get a Single Part Number which is different to the Assembly Number.

This is similar to the issue I wrote about concerning Fabsuite/Tekla EPM. The KSS export does NOT create a line item for the Assembly (the assembly mark is embedded in the line item for the part), therefore an entry cannot be created for the assembly within the importing software. The way we worked around it is by using a THIRD PARTY software that reads the BOM of your shop drawing and then when it creates the KSS file it includes a "W" line which defines the drawing and in turn the Assembly entry.

You might try the SMLX export and see how that works with Strumis?

PS: but yes, your numbering must first be set up as NONE in order for the part and assembly to have different marks.

I appreciate your response, but the issue is that the Assembly would have a
Main Part but all of the parts that make up that assembly would need to have
single part numbers. In other words, for a column, the shaft would normally
be the main part, but for this purposes the shaft also needs to have a
single part.

Thanks

Thanks Alec.  That does get the single part on the main part component like I need.  I am testing the file export to Strumis and see if that works.  I need to get that single part in the BOM on the drawing for reference and that is my next step.
