Document Manager Deleting Drawings

My Document manager has started to delete my drawings after forcing an update. I try to re-register the drawing with the model but after I force update it is deleted again. I do not understand why it deleted in the first place and also why it keeps deleting after re-registering the drawing with the model.

This has started happening on multiple models I have created.

Please see screencast I have uploaded.

Hi @mitchell8TKBM

Yeah ive always had trouble with direct uploads, I just use the links these days.

That is odd behaviour, there are a couple of things to try

1. Can you check your Advance Steel build windows permissions

Close Advance Steel, then go to C/ProgramData/Autodesk/AdvanceSteel Version

Click on your build (example below 2021 GBR build) then right click properties

Go to security

For each group / user (Except CREATOR OWNER) make sure full control and modify are ticked

GBR Permissions.png

Open Advance Steel and try the drawings again

2. Are your models & drawings saved on a network / cloud location

If so please take a copy onto your C drive and test from there to ensure these are not the problem

I've had so many issues with document manager in the past that I've stopped using it all together, except for renaming drawings. That is the ONLY thing I use document manager for.

I open drawings individually and update them. I have a lisp file that has been posted in the custom commands post that will allow you to select multiple views and update them to make it easier.

I changed my permission settings as you mentioned and it didn't make a difference. I then copied the drawing from the server to my local drive and that seems to be working. Is there something I can change to allow me to work directly off the server?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi @mitchell8TKBM

Im afraid I dont have any experience with network setup.

I would show the behaviour of Advance Steel to your IT team when on your C drive, then show them the behaviour of Advance Steel on the network. Im sure they will be able to change some permissions or some network settings so Advance Steel runs as expected.

maybe additional to this:

we often have this issue with customers and we encounter problem with mapped drives for example with onedrive and sometimes the same problem for the situation if the network drive is backupped conesquently to another drive. So the situation is the following: AS want to update the detail and in the same moment, the backup tool use the file to save it--> the file will be deleted sometimes.
Another issue: have a look for the length of your filename...windows is limited for 256 characters 😉

This is exactly the problem. Our dropbox is backing up the files on the mapped drive. The files are not deleting when I pause the dropbox syncing. Is there a workaround to this so that I can continue to work on the mapped drive while syncing with dropbox?
