Cut view text

I have text for cut views showing up in my drawing that is not even remotely like our company standard. I delete them but they come back every time I update. Is there a way to set these to be on a non-print layer so I can stop being annoyed by them? See screenshot.

I think you need to edit the drawing style you are using to create the view

Hello sdoyle!

Can you please elaborate a bit about, if you want these cut view marks to be removed from all drawings or you want to remove them form only GA sections and not in Shop Drawings.

I have the solution in both cases.

Thanks a lot. I don't mind them being there for reference but it would be nice if I could specify a layer for them be on so I can set that layer to not print. Otherwise, I would get rid of them completely on all drawings. As it is if I delete them they come back upon update and I'm spending too much time with them. Thanks

Hello Sdoyle, 

Here you have to change two different settings for these symbols.

1. in management tool you should enter "-" in place of whats written in red rectangle in the image 1 below:

follow these steps:

a. open management tools> defaults > drawing labeling> general.

b. change the entries for up and down symbols for cut views to "-" (don't leave it blank).

2. Now for the title of sections you need to remove it in drawing style manager as shown in image 2 for each style in the Cut view title tab so that to remove from all places.

Is it possible to add in your own cut symbol?

The standard on is not very nice.

I don't know of any way to add it through the Style Manager but you can certainly add it manually by using a block

Firstly, check the name of your cut symbol in MT:

Go to Drawing-Labelling->General->Cut symbol...

You can then go to the following folder (substitute 2019 with your version and AUS with your build):

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2019\AUS\Shared\Support\Symbols

And edit the relevant files. In my case "CutSymbolDown - AUS.dwg" and "CutSymbolUp - AUS.dwg". You can change the graphics, but make sure you retain the attribute (text) if you want it to be filled automatically.

Always make sure you back up the files first!

This is a small lisp file I use all the time and may do what you want. Give it a try and if it is what you need but needs some changes to the arrow size or text ' let me know and Ill make the changes for you

If your not sure how to initiate this lisp file also let me know and Ill give you some instructions.

Bubtail.dwg is a block needed to complete the lisp program so make sure it is saved in an Autocad search path.
