Custom Material Won't show

I downloaded a wood texture and made a custom material. I applied it to a layer and now it will not show up. I updated the default settings, restarted, and I have my visual style set to show textures. I have also tried using some of the default textures and they also will not show up, it'll just show whatever color the layer is. Any ideas?

Yes that's exactly what I did.

I wound up getting the texture to show up in paperspace which is all I really care about. Weird how it won't show up in modelspace but it is what it is. Thanks.
