Custom Connection: Column to Horizontal HSS with Double L Clips

Hello, I am having some difficulty figuring out how to make a certain custom connection using the Advance Tool Palette. I was able to create the connection below. However I need to create one that is essentially the same however the horizontal HSS is turn 90 degrees. so it clips in the middle of the beam and not the end.

 connection 1.jpg

So far, this is the closest I have been able to come. I need the top clip to be turned to mirror the bottom clip.connection 2.jpg

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi,

The second connection-we don't need it to be a custom connection (if no bolts are req'd)

Attached is Dwg.1 file, select the column first.

I will also attach dwg.2 as a sample for the first connection, basically they have to be one left and one right.

If it is made of steel, I can model it and detail it.

The plan was to add a bolt to this connection once I get the correct orientation like you have in DWG 1. I should have clarified that. How were you able to get the L clips in that position in DWG 1? Is it just a matter of drawing it from left to right (or vice versa) and then choosing the correct position in the properties? Regardless, this is very helpful. Thank you!

To be more specific, how are you getting the axis line of the horizontal HSS to be on the top of the beam when the position in the properties is on the bottom? Is this UCS related? I'm also assuming this positioning was the key to getting the connection to be oriented correctly? Thanks

I am used to build the beams left to right and bottom to top, looking from top, system will be always on top, same in AS properties.

If you need to add bolts to the clips, then add them and make one left and one right.
