Create custom round head bolt

Hi all, I'm trying to create a custom round head bolt (its actually a rivet), but something isn't working.

The A/B dimensions on the top of the 'Bolts' tab doesn't seem to have any effect. I've tried changing these values, but the result doesn't change. I've tried copying an existing bolt family and restarting AS, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Hi @gerrardhickson,

You have nothing available in you bolt list rules.

You will have to change the min/max grip lengths to get the bolts to work.

What makes you say that?

The font in my previous image is a different colour (not sure why) so its harder to see, but it's still there.

Change your min grip length to 0 and bolt length to 8.90.

I changed bolt length only, and that seems to have worked. Either that was the solution, or the problem went away by itself.

To clarify, it wasn't necessary to change the grip length to 0.

Definitely the bolt length, the grip will determine the what thickness items you can use the rivet on.

You should have an available rivet in your rule 1 now.

Oh I see - that's why the text was a different colour.

Ok - one more question. Rivets are the same length regardless of the grip length (within their range). e.g. My 8.9mm long rivet has a grip range of 3.3 to 4.9mm. I see that my bolt list is expecting my bolt length to grow with the grip length, but that's not the case. Is there a way to correct this?

Change you increment of bolt length to 5 and apply.

It is adding a rivet for every 0.2 up to the maximum grip length.

I could use some guidance on this one again.

I've tried everything mentioned above, but the bolt head still doesn't match the dimensions - neither does the projection come to think of it.

I'm using AS2025 this time - I note that the forth parameter on the rule table is now called 'Delta of the bolt length' instead of 'Increment of bolt length'. It seems that the former refers to an increment dimension, whereas the latter refers to the number of increments, but I might be wrong.

Any suggestions?
