Compound section numbering and BOM

Anonymous

Hello to all. Is it possible to have a numbering of the compound section as an assembly and a subnumbering of single elements that compose it?
For example. I have a compound section made of 1L60x6 and 1L80x8; I want this in the drawings called as "my truss" with assembly number 1..My truss must be composed of the single elements 1001 and 1002. In the BOM I want to appear how many 1001 and 1002 I have to order. I hope I was clear.
Thanks to those who will help me!

Hi @Anonymous

You can set the "Display Type" and "Behavior" to "Separate". However you must then Weld the Two elements to create one Assembly. At least the two sections will be seen as individual parts.

Thanks for the reply. If I consider them as separate profiles in the general views they will not be named with the "my Truss" label but 1L60x6 and 1L80x8.

Hi @Anonymous

That's why you have to weld them. Sorry, don't have a better solution.

you have to options, the one which @sampie wrote, set the behavior to split beams, weld with together (with dummy welding) and then rename the maintpartnumber for example to "my truss".

The second option is, to let the behavior to "1 beam" set a name and use 2 list: material + compound list, but the problem is in this case is: the single beams will not get a number =(

Thanks so much. if I rename the main element as "my truss" however I will have that a single element will be called "my truss". Am I doing something wrong? Sorry for my ignorance

Hi @albygo2  and @Sebastian_Eiche

I have created a short Screencast. I'm not sure if this is the result you are looking for. Let us know if not and we will try to assist further.

Thanks, it's a very good solution. It is a bit complicated for all the composed sections of a project but with a little work it can be done.

It seems so simple but complicated at the same time. In the general views of the truss beam I would like to see "2xL50x5" with the assembly number (as in the attached image n ° 52). In the assembly drawing I see that the assembly (in the example n ° 52) is composed of 2 single elements 50x5 that I find in the drawing of the single elements with number 1001 and 1002..

Hi @Anonymous

Could you please copy that assembly to a clean file and attach it?

In the attached file there is an extract of the numbered truss beam. I hope I have explained my intentions. I would like to have in the elevation views the name of the compound profile (2xL50x5) with the assembly numbering but that at the same time the two elements L50x5 can also be numbered single elements. Sorry again for my ignorance 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

That specific element is not set to be separated parts as suggested earlier. Thus you will not be able to have single part numbers for the two individual angles. You have to separate the two angles and create a dummy weld in order to generate an assembly containing two single parts. I really hope I don't misunderstand you. I have created another video to explain:

I understand, but in that case in the elevation views the name "2xL50x5" of the compound profile will not appear but only "L50x5", name of the main element of the assembly. In addition to explode all compound profiles and edit them manually for the whole project it's crazy ... 🙂 .. Thanks again for your kindness

Hi @Anonymous

I'm sorry I don't have a better solution for you. Compound Profiles behave different from normal beams when it comes to the numbering.

You can read this Knowledgebase Article from Autodesk to understand the reasoning behind this a bit better:

Thanks again for your kindness. I read the link you pointed out to me and took a screenshot. This would be perfect (assembly n ° 1 and single parts 1001 and 1002) but it is not like that: if I consider "separated" profiles the numbering process assign 2 different assembly number. The assembly number should be unique and the name chosen during the compound section generation.

Hi @Anonymous

Once again, Assemblies can only be created with a Shop Bolt or Shop Weld. The document does not mention that. If Two parts are not welded/bolted together using a Shop connection, it will not get the same Assembly number. In the explanation on this document, the two Parts will get different Assembly numbers if they are not welded together.

Sampie
