Chaotic orbitting/view cube nonresponsive

I am having trouble orbiting. Sounds simple, I know, but when I try and orbit it is absolutely uncontrollable. I can also barely zoom in and out. Zoom extents kind of works, scrolling in and out does not work at all anymore. I have restarted the program numerous times and I have restarted my system. This does not occur in other drawings. Only this one at the moment. Last time this happened, it suddenly corrected itself for reasons unknown.

I have since copied the entire model into a now drawing. It worked fine for a while, but now the view cube is unresponsive. When I click on the view cube, nothing happens. If I copy the entire model into a new drawing again, it behaves normally for a while, but then both of the aforementioned issues start happening after a short while.

Any and all help/advise would be greatly appreciated. I must get this resolved ASAP.

Have you run an Audit on the model?

Yes. I've purged and audited the model.

Do you have a xref in there? That sometimes throws things off.

If you cant find a solution, use the command 3DORBITCTR to set the pivot point manually.

I find this happens when i don't return UCS to home (0,0,0) before i copy a model into a new project. if you have the original file still, try returning ucs to home or world with this button and then try copying it into a new model.World UCS.png

The issue should then resolve itself. Also, i notice you're using a custom workspace(or this is just default in AS2017) but, you should see if this command is enabled(^P'_3DORBITTRANSPARENT ^P) if it is, disable it.

Harry,

I do not use, nor have I ever used XREF's, so I don't think that would be the issue. When I use the 3DORBITCTR command it kind of helps. It is not quite as chaotic, but still terrible.

Thank you

Kirk,

I made sure ucs was to home before copying model into a new file and before inserting it.

This is the 2017 workspace, I think. I don't recall changing anything out of the box. I do have my tools and connections on another screen though.

When I type _3DORBITTRANSPARENT, nothing happens...

I am also having something weird happen with the undo and the selection preview as well. Maybe they're related, maybe they're not...

When attempting to undo a command, I sometimes have to go back 500 - 1000 commands just to go back 1 actual command. In the undo list, it has "group of commands" listed hundreds of times in between each actual command.

Every day or so, the selection preview (where the object or line lights up when you hover over it) turns it self off and I have to go back into the options and re-check the boxes to turn it back on.

Should I start a new thread with these, or do you guys think these could all be related to the core issue?

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.

Honestly, I'd just try a repair reinstall. you shouldn't loose any settings or customizations or anything it just repairs the values with the application itself.

I do this atleast once or twice a month.

just like a person with age and complications, a program's code can become "sick" due to data cache and code injection and pre programmed tweaks to make the program run more efficiently.

As with anything, be sure to make a backup of your settings before hand because we don't know the variables or conditions with you computer and its current installation but i can pretty much guarantee(99%) that afterwards everything will be back to normal.

I am probably stating the obvious but it hasn't been mentioned but have you tried adjusting your orbit settings. Type "3dorbit" then right click to settings, try turning on or off "Enable Orbit Auto Target" and see if that helps.

This positions the centre of the orbit where you click the middle mouse button.

hi

First, select a object and use the Orbit tools.

Please use " Accept as Solution", and give kudos as appropriate to further enhance these forums. Thank you!

Kirk,

I did a repair install last week, but I will try that again and see if it helps.

Thank you

grinvent,

Yes, I have tried to adjust my orbit settings. I've also tried turning off auto target. I've switched from constrained, parallel, perspective, etc......nothing changes it's behavior. Also remember, I can't zoom in or out either. The only zoom function that seems to be operating normally is zoom extents (after 2 or 3 tries) and zoom window.

Kirk,

I went ahead and did a repair install. When that didn't work, I went for the full reinstall. Still no change.

Bit of a long shot, granted and it may be clutching at straws, but have you tried toggling hardware acceleration on/off?

nichaz,

I had not tried that. I just now did, no change, unfortunately.

Thank you though.

I just figured it out. Not sure why, but layer 0 was active and had some objects that were on layer 0. Once I changed the active layer to STANDARD and changed the properties of all objects that were on layer 0 to their proper layers, the orbiting and view cube issue fixed itself. I recreated this scenario three times to make sure, and it works every time.
