Building Design Suite 2016

Hi,

Can anyone from Autodesk tell us if the Advanced Steel and Concrete will be in the BDS 2016 in place of ASD, as 2015 wil be the last version of ASD.

We are quoting a customer and need some clarity.

Autodesk just stop servicing the structural detailing and that's it?
No alternative provided and the price is still the same?

Im not sure whats happening with ASD but i would expect it to be included in BDS 2016.

Maybe in time Adavnce Steel will be migrated into BDS but for now its standalone.

Queried reseller last week, they believed that ASD will be removed from the 2016 BDS & AS will remain a seperate program.

Very disappointed to say the least.

This is NOT cool.  We had spend a bunch of time and energy to get ASD to work with Aust. sections only for to hit a brick wall now.  As a small design, detailing and fabrication shop this a complete nightmare.  It is like buying a car, taking for a service and getting it back without a steering wheel.  This criminal.......... behaviour. 

So what do I do now?  Sit on my hands until they tell us what direction steel detailing will take at Autodesk.  So much for intelligent BIM modelling. 

On top of all this I find out that Re sellers have been competing with me on producing BIM content for manfactures with evaluation versions of the software.  That stinks....

Time to re think our whole business software stratergy.  Maybe time to cut the loses and move on.

Been an AutoCAD customer since 1987. Looks like I will have to re-finance my house to keep up to date with this software...what a joke.

Still waiting for 2016. It used to be available each year around March. Here we are mid April and nothing on my subscription as yet for download. Not really a big issue I guess, as I have a collegue who is also on subscription but always installs 1 version behind as he cannot afford the downtime with bugs in the latest. Might have to do same or look for alternatives. We have consultants who are still using ACAD 2007, and they are making money, not spending it on subscriptions etc.

Time for a class action they can't sell you a package and take away from it,

without giving you an alternative.

I think people worldwide should get together and fight them on this one.

They will just keep taking if we don't make a stand.

This is absolutely ridiculously outrageous.

Autodesk should give to BDS subscription (loyal) customer either 

(1) discount on the subscription fee due to the discontinued software,

or (2) discount to buy Advance Steel.

Discontinuing a software by posting a simple memo without any alternative? Very unpleasant action.

The fact we bought the package to use ASD and now we are left with nothing

Some of us are small customers and cant afford to loose ASD and have to buy another package

I have paid subscription for last time. Been a user since 1984 nad licensed since 1987. Update to 2016 is a waste. No new improvements. Seems to be like thst every year now. Way too expensive for what you get, and they are actually removing programs.

Options is what I would have liked to have seen.

With Autodesk's new selling/leasing of their products, they could have supplied the existing ASD users X months use of AS per year.

For example say they supplied 6 moths per year, to use month to month as required.

If a large project came along that AS would be good for I could use it & for the smaller projects still use ASD.

Using AS may entice me to lease AS for the other 6 months?

Could have been a win/win for both sides of the fence.

Options is what I would like to hear about from Autodesk.

think the ACCC will be my next step it was a major decission for me to buy my package that ASD was in it and like you we spent good money on training and for autodesk to say buy Advanced steel is not the solution we bought a package with detailing in it. End of story

Hi,

Just remember that you can still use ASD 2015 for another 3 years under the subscription benefit of "Previous Licenses".  Also with the increase of the open source Dynamo programming and automation of tasks inside Revit its just a question of time before ASD functionality gets built into Revit.

I agree with charlv. Right now, we got to wait and see when they will build some of the functionality into Revit and how they going to handel advance steel down the road.

If you are an ASD user you probably should complain to Autodesk and NOT buy the advanced steel extensions. Just keep using ASD 2015 for now. Most users would probably agree that this should be included in the Building Design Suite; similar to how they did it with Infraworks and maintenance subscription.

In simple words this means that in order for you and your firm to provide complete BIM solutions up to fabrication drawings you need to pay about 1000EUROS monthly in subscription for the Building Design Suite Ultimate, Advance steel and concrete. I guess Autodesk products are not for small or starting up firms. You simply cant compete with large firms if you dont have the right tools. 

Lets be realistic though, if we compare the price and content of building design suite ultimate with other products on the market what do we get? are there any products that come even close to this? i dont know the answer i am just asking a question.

We now use Inventor to do our Steel Detailing, ASD was rubbish anyhow. Much better than Advance Steel, takes a little setting up but worth the effort.
