Bolt Display Type - Retrospective change for ALL bolts in a model...

Thank you all for your continued help with this AS newbie!

My next question; Is there a way to 'quickly' make a retrospective change to the bolt display type for an existing model? Only now am I starting to produce bigger more complex models, and only now am I realising how slow and laggy orbiting and panning can get with large models. One suggestion I have seen to help remedy this is to change the display type for bolts from Solid to Standard. Is there a way to do this in one hit, much like a LOD change in Revit? Going into each and every set of bolts and changing them manually is really not a practical solution for a large model with hundreds of joints.

I have already changed the display setting in my Management Tools defaults to avoid the issue in the future, but it would be nice to know if I can quickly switch. TIA for your help.

Highlight one bolt, move cursor, right click mouse to select similar, right click mouse again to advance properties,  select display type and then standard.

If any are left repeat the process until all have changed.

you could use the tool palette-  category filter: screws--then use the right click and choose Advance properties.

You could also select all Advance elements and use the Multi Edit

or you could create a command for this:
^C^C_AstM4SelectObjectByName ASTSCREWBOLTPATTERN _AstM4SwitchReprMode exact

This will select all bolts and change the display type to solid

it is not possible to create a new button if there's no button where you could make a "right click"
So make the following steps:

  • use a category which is existing for example "quick views"
  • make a right mouse on a command button, so you are in the "editing mode"
  • now change to you category and you should have the Editing mode here too
  • or you create a command in another category and move by drag 'n drop your category

Thank you both for your solutions. Very helpful, and I've also now learnt an extra feature with the customising of panels. Bonus!
