Assembly overall dimension

acbsdesign

Hi Everyone.

Does anyone know how to add the overall dimension of an assembly if system lines of the MP do not extend to the ends:

acbsdesign_0-1618599715898.png

Any help/ or idea would be appreciated.

This will be also helpful for columns where system lines end at cap plates, and if there is added material above the cap plates (special moment connections, clips etc)

Thank you.

Therefore there're dimension point for mainpart extrem left and right.

I thought there're a few detail styles which already use it. I'm not familiar with the USA version, maybe you have a look in the international version.

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche

Tried the International version, Beam and Assembly UCS, no overall dimensions either.

Will try digging further, it is just on some repetitive bridge projects, for example, assemblies do not always have MP system line ending at the very end of the assembly.

Thank you for the input.

Hi @acbsdesign

Same as @Sebastian_Eiche I'm not familiar with the US build but in the GBR build we use MP Colli dimensions for overall dimensions, although not at my machine to see if there is anything different

@robertwmerriman1

Thank you for the input,

We don't have an "Assembly parts" category as described

My dim request is already dimensioning MP-ColliDimensions, but it is taking the system points. This applies to all DWG Styles-Beam, Column, and all my own created.

Could you have a look for your dimpoints?
I tried it with the MP - Assembly overall and it's working on my side:

It looks the same like yours, but it the result is definetly not just using the systemlines ( I expand a beam with endplates without expanding the systemline):

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche

It does not work with the same dimension requests used.

I deleted all dim. for assembly UCS, and added only the two MP-..-View, just to test, and they still dimension only the MP, not the added material to the right:

I saw you create a bug thread for it. I tested it with the original USA database and it works on my side, but I could not see a difference to your settings.
I'm sure you tested it, but do you try another model?

@Sebastian_Eiche

I have created a new test model, and I will copy screenshots of my settings:

This is a short screencast:

Screencast

Not sure what is going on, but it does not work in the International version either.

The last thing I want is to take from dev's time, or your time, but something does not look right.

Have a great day.

@Sebastian_Eiche

Hi Sebastian,

If something is not right it does not let me live with it for a long time, and this is one of those things.

So I spent an hour or two today to find what is going on and if I need to fix my settings.

1. Sample column with added dummy end plate:

Model built in USA version, detailed in International version (with zero customization)-Overall Dim's behave same as if detailed in USA version.

acbsdesign_0-1620404459628.png

2.  Model built with International Version, same used for detailing (Column dwg style)

-Dimensions work as supposed to be.

acbsdesign_1-1620404459633.png

3.  Model built with International version, USA version used for detailing, used a simplified exported dwg style from International Version:

-DIMENSIONS WORK AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE

acbsdesign_2-1620404459646.png

4. Same model used that was started in International Version, but a second column was built using USA version, detailed using same exported dwg style that produced good dimension if the column was built with International Version:

IT IS NOT WORKING.

SAME MODEL, SAME DWG STYLE. ONE COLUMN BUILT WITH AN INTERNATIONAL VERSION, SECOND WITH USA VERSION.

acbsdesign_3-1620404459640.png

I know that you have paths to devs are shorter than mine.

And I also know you are as passionate as I am about this software if not more-please forward this for review.

Thank you,

I hope you will have a great weekend.

It is coming from AstorSettings.

It works as it is supposed to be with all files from USA Installation, except for AstorSettings.

that's really interesting. So if you change your Profile in the management tool, to the original one, does it work? Because I tried it with the original USA databases and it works on my side.

If it's not working with the original profile, maybe there was an issue in an older version and my migrating the defaults, this problem occurs?
So we had to test and find the difference

Hi Sebastian,

It is working with the default Settings.

And it is working with mine if I start in International Version.

Weird, I change only colors, hide zeros, etc. in MT, it shouldn't make any difference for dimensioning.

Thank you for the input.

Have a great day.

Hi @acbsdesign

Indeed interesting.

Could you please upload the model and the generated detail -> the ones showing the issue with MP Colli dimension ?

Thank you
