Are you considering moving to Tekla after AS ?

Hi! Since Advance Steel's future is uncertain(and Revit doesn't fit your work) would you consider moving to Tekla? To be honest, I don't know the price of Tekla subscription, but let's say that your company would pay that price.

I am a beginner in AS, do you think start learning Tekla instead of AS would be a smart move?

Thank you!

I look forward to testing one of these transmission tower models with my drawing automation system.  A modelling macro combined with a drawing automation output should result in a very efficient workflow.

I already have a closet full of such individual drawing styles and processes and tools, now it should be an all inclusive package...easy and intuitive to use

@fcorte

I can trust AD to make improvements and keep AS stable.

Even without new features this year I am better off with stable software.

I know the OP was asking about Tekla but we've recently started using E3D for a specific project. Hands down the worst structural deisgn software I've ever used. IMO it's a piping software that does a little bit of steel. It's lacking so many simple capabilities.

Hi @bigcarl5000kg

Tekla heavily dropped their prices couple of years back so nowadays pricing levels are very similar to AS.

Would be interesting to know what are other disadvantages?

Posts have been hidden for no reason, except that it is said a plug-in lacks stability.

Since when STABILITY is a violation of ground rules?

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve by doing this, folks are intelligent and they can understand what is right and what is not.

A high-school attitude did not help some in the past, not going to help in the future either.

They either provide a stable working plug-in or not.

Have a great day.

As the original poster intended, this topic is not about general stability to software or a specific plugin. If any specific discussion is needed on issues with the stability of software or a particular plugin, it should go into its own topic. Thank you.

I have around 5 years experience on PDMS (now E3D) and as a structural drafting tool for that industry it cannot be beaten.  There is a massive learning curve though due to the command line based interface.

It doesn't have the same level of drawing automation of AS / Tekla therefore not really suitable for fabricators.

It's simple - if the Advance Steel doesn't move, the user will take the reins .... AD can't imagine such a sprint. Also, don't underestimate the possibility of your own development... it's also a path 😀😉

Why would anyone start using software who's death sentence has already been written? I'm invested already so I can't just jump ship.

@spufut

Change in opinion as of 08-17-2023.

Purchased Tekla somewhere in late May or early June, and I was supposed to have training mid-June.

For one or another reason beyond my control training with an instructor did not happen, not enough folks for a group they said.

So spending 2-3 hours a day in between working with Advance, and weekends, started to get a good feeling about what is Tekla about.

It is well-developed platform that does not produce drawings good for submittals with what is out of the box.

With Advance Steel we can start producing drawings with zero customization.

Tekla's warehouse is huge, and there is an advantage, we don't have such in AS.

There are a few plug-ins we can buy for a few extra bucks, but the bottom line is are we getting the same productivity as with the competition.

Their marketing is a century ahead, and they do their best AS to go another way.

With Advance Steel, unfortunately, we don't have good marketing, at least here in The USA.

Trainer told me Advance is a 2D program.

This is what they say everywhere.

He explained how Tekla has a "window" for each view to look at the model.

LOL.

It hurts.

It is time for us to take another road.

Hi @acbsdesign,

"He explained how Tekla has a "window" for each view to look at the model"

As if model rotation only works in selected  CADs 😁, brainwashing and nonsense from instructor side. There is no point in occasionally smiling at the persuasiveness of basic ignorance. Thank you very much for your feedback and enjoy the rest of the summer.
