Hi

Recently when I export any Revit model including steel beams and columns with Advance Steel Extension, Revit hangs and not responding (high cpu usage that never ends)

I have Autodesk Revit 2016 Release 2 with last version of Advance Steel Extension in Win 10

Uninstalling and reinstalling Revit and extension didnt solve anything

Whats wrong here?

When I use some of steel columns or beams like UC and UB ,advance steel extension hangs (its not happening when I use IPE)

model attached

as I said uninstalling and reinstalling Revit and the extension didnt solve the problem.

I think bad parameters in settings of advance steel extension cause this problem, How can I reset all of the settings

or in another words where is the location of preferences files of advance steel extension that I delete that folder and reset it?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

We were not able to reproduce the issue on our side, using the same versions of the application and the model you sent us.

We think this issue may be linked to the settings set on the machine.

In order to try to fix this issue please try the following steps:

  1. From C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Autodesk\BIMConnect\2016 delete the Index.xml file.
  2. Open Revit and go to the Extension Settings dialog. Add a new line with the location of the UK families on your harddrive.
  3. Press OK. After this is done a new Index.xml file will be created. This will include also the new added UK families.

Please inform us if these steps solved the issue.

i did it step by step but I think it create bad index.xml again and revit hangs again

its part of the index file that reproduced

<FamilyNameKey>MISSING_KEY</FamilyNameKey>

Hi, I was not able to reproduce this issue on my machine and the xml file you sent us. The Index.xml file is correct, only the families from inside Structural Framing and Structural Columns folders have a newly implemented parameter. The families from the Annotation folder don't have it and it is normal to have in the Index.xml file the MISSING_KEY value. Please contact us on [email protected] so we can accommodate a Team Viewer session, in order to connect to your machine and try to fix the issue. Regards, Mihai Sandu Sr.QA Analyst Autodesk

Hello Banchieu, Double-angle cross section beams can be created inside Advance Steel with the Compound Beam command. Compound Beams can be transferred from Advance Steel and imported in Revit, where a mapping dialog will appear in which the user can select the double angle family and the correct profile type. Double section profiles can't be transferred correctly from Revit to Advance Steel. When importing a smlx file, containing such a profile from Revit, a mapping dialog will appear and the user must select a corresponding profile in Advance Steel. The mapping dialog will not allow users to select compound beams, only single section profiles can be selected. We have in our backlog an improvement issue in order to solve this in a future version. Best regards, Mihai Sandu

Hello Ahmad, The last released version of Advance Steel Extension for Revit is 17.1.6359.0, 5/25/2016 and it can be found at the following location: https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=3694898109866066388&appLang=en&os=Win64 If your question refers to the transfer of compound beams from Revit to Advance Steel, this last version doesn't contain this feature. This feature request is still in our backlog for a future release. Regards, Mihai Sandu

please have a look if you have installed the Microsoft Access database engine, we have a similar issue these weeks. In the past this was installed automatic because Advance Steel need. Now Advance use SQL and so it's not installed anymore.
You could control if you have a look in the system control center, if it is not installed:  Microsoft Database Engine

I also have the same problem with Revit 19. I've tried multiple models with the same unresponsive result.

Exporting with the Advance Steel Ad-in works in 2021.

Hi,

as previously mentioned in this thread the issue appears to be linked to the install of an ODBC driver.

also this other thread makes this request and solution is the repair or install of the MS odbc driver.
